A CITRINE AND PEARL SET BROOCH the heart-shaped brooch is centred with a citrine mounted with a pearl set flower motif, within a surround of small pearls, in gold, 2.8cm. wide, together with an amethyst circular brooch mounted with a gold and pearl star motif within a surround of paste stones, in gold, 2.5cm. dia., a paste set pendant and a circular portrait brooch.

Francis David ("Frank") Millet (1846-1912) American. Portrait of a Man with a Moustache, possibly a portrait of Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) who was Frank's best man at his marriage to Lily Merrill in Paris in 1879 and who, it is recorded, had asked Frank to paint his portrait. Oil on Canvas, Signed on the reverse, Unframed, 22" x 16". Provenance: The artist's family and thence The Reverend A Harvey. Exhibited: Broadway Arts Festival June 2010. Together with a copy of the illustrated hardback book on the artist "Soldier of Fortune" by Joyce Sharpey-Schafer (Utica, New York 1984), and a print of "Between Two Fires", the artist's painting in the Tate Gallery - three (3). Notes; Frank Millet was the founder in 1884 of a small group of artists, including Americans, in Broadway Gloucestershire. Millet lived at both Farnham House and Russell House, and the group included John Singer Sargent whose painting 'Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose' was commenced in Frank and Lily's garden in Broadway, the title being a tribute to Frank's wife. Millet was a First Class passenger aboard the Titanic in 1912, and was among the many who lost their lives.
