Lanard and numbered 32, possibly a self-portrait of the artist
John Hoppner R.A., (1758-1810) - Portrait of Sir Michael Smith.,Bt., (1740-1808) Master of the Rolls in Ireland and Baron of the Exchequer, oil on canvas, 30" x 25" **Sir Michael Smith was part of an Anglo-Irish judicial dynasty whose members were noted for their eccentricity! **The canvas bears the trade stamp for James Poole of High Holborn, London, Poole died in 1801 and was known as a canvas supplier to Hoppner before this date **Contained within a period gilt plaster and wooden frame
Sir William Beechey, R.A., (1753-1829) - Portrait of Mrs Anna Maria Gulston, née Susannah Woodham, daughter of Reverend James Knowles, half length, wearing a black dress with cream inner accessory and lace collar, beside a tree in a landscape, inscribed with the sitter's name on an old label verso, together with the date 1787 and previously ascribed to John Hoppner R.A. **Provenance: Ex. Gregory Page-Turner "Art Ware" London and Sotheby's Sale at "Derwydd" South Wales in 1998, the ancestral home of the Gulstons, when the contents were dispersed following the death of the last remaining members of the family
