ENGLISH SCHOOL, late 18th century. Portrait of Mrs Edwards in profile, wearing lace headdress & silk dress, oil on panel: 5½” x 5”, inscribed to label verso “Portrait of Mrs Edwards, Grand-mother of Wm. Stephenson Bennett, Painted on mahogany July 18th 1782”, in gold-painted gesso frame (12” x 11” over-all).
Manner of THOMAS HUDSON (1701-1779). Portrait of John Huyshe, head & shoulder length, wearing clerical robes within a painted oval; oil on canvas: 30” x 24¾”, in giltwood frame (37¼” x 32¼” over-all). Note: Rev. John Huyshe (1717-1802) of Sand, Sidbury, Devon, was rector of Pembridge in the county of Hereford. He changed his name to the spelling Huish, however his family reverted to the original spelling Huyshe after his death in 1802. (Provenance: by family descent from the sitter to the present owner).
Style of WILLIAM HOARE of Bath (1707-1792). Portrait of Lieutenant Edmund Craggs Nugent, head & shoulder length, wearing blue jacket with white cravat; pastels, 25½” x 20”, in glazed gilt frame 50½” x 25” over-all. Note: Eldest son of Robert Craggs-Nugent & Lady Emilia Plunkett, Edmund Craggs Nugent 1731-1771) became captain in the 85th Regiment of Foot Guards in 1759, & in 1763 attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel to the First Foot Guards.
ENGLISH SCHOOL, circa 1835. A portrait miniature of Julia Maria Huyshe (née Hagar), her son Dunbar Huyshe on her lap, 4¼” x 3⅛”, in morocco folding case (5⅜” x 4½” overall). Note: Julia Maria Huyshe (1812-1890) lived in India during the mid-19th century with her husband Major-General Alfred Huyshe (1811-1880) with their 5 sons. She wrote two diaries during this time describing her travels around India from 1855-1864.

Fladbury The sitter is wearing the uniform of the 57th Regiment (West Middlesex) the uniform would suggest of Crimea period in which the regiment fought at Inkerman and Sebastopol.
