TOM FINNEY Original framed, glazed and mounted portrait of Tom Finney signed by the artist Joy Tucker and sketched in 1946 shortly after Tom made his first official England appearance. It was presented to Tom and he had it in his front room until he donated it to charity approximately 15 years ago. This is the original portrait and no copies/prints have been made from it. Framed in a gilt frame, the piece measures 46cm x 56cm. Very good
CARL-HENNING PEDERSEN (1913-2007) Framed, unsigned, Danish mixed media on board, Abstract Expressionist portrait of woman, inscribed verso, `Portrait, Henning, d.1962`, see partial label verso. Pedersen was a key member of the COBRA movement, linking artists from Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam in the late 1940`s, 61cm x 61cm.
A parcel lot of portrait miniatures to include, three watercolours over pencil on paper, portraits in profile, one indistinctly signed, dated 1819, Regency gentleman, the other two showing a woman and a young boy, one watercolour on ivory, portrait of an 18th Century lady, six prints, including two military portraits, one portrait of a Regency lady in red and white dress on lid of circular box and two empty oval metal locket frames, smallest: 4cm x 4cm, largest: 12cm x 9.5cm, (13).
A lot to include; an Oriental papier mache elongated box with a gilt coloured figural and boat scene to lid together with two other similar boxes, two Turkish black papier mache and inlaid boxes, lacquered cylindrical string box with a female portrait design to lid, horn snuff box with a design of St Mark`s Square, Venice, four carved mother of pearl gaming counter with seven other items of carved mother of pearl, together with two other boxes. Framed, unsigned, early Victorian oil on canvas, bust length portrait of Harriet Ward (b. 1778) in black dress with white lace collar and cap, covering dark curled hair, with a red shawl across her shoulder, inscribed on label verso, `Harriet Ward/ Francis Houssmayne du Boulay`s aunt`. Rev. Francis du Boulay (1828-1921) and the du Boulay family were based in the South East area of Kent, 67.5cm x 55cm.
A WW1 1914-15 star trio medal group to 11171 Pte J.A. Belcher Oxf & Bucks Light Infantry with death plaque scroll, hand written letters and others, Belcher was announced dead after being missing since 25th September 1915 with accompanying casualty form confirming this dated 19th August 1916. Together with 13 hand written letters, both to and from him, dated between 18th December 1914 and 31st August 1915, some with envelopes plus Field Service Post Cards, two silk handkerchiefs, two silk postcards, three portrait postcards and a regimental photo. ALFRED BARRON CLAY (1831-1868) Framed, unsigned, oil on canvas, bust length portrait of the Right Honourable William Pitt the Younger, (1759-1806), British Prime Minister 1783-1801 and 1804-1806, wearing a high collared, dark, single breasted jacket and white chemise, in painted feigned oval, after George Romney`s (1734-1802) original composition, c.1783, which resides in the permanent collection of the Tate, London, 86cm x 65cm. Provenance: Ex- collection of Sir Charles Cayzer, a British Conservative party member of Parliament, see label verso.
