This in the fashion of the General Monck medal c.1660 (Eimer 218) or otherwise that may have been based on these medalets. George Monck, Duke of Albermarle was a member of the nobility who swapped sides during the Civil War, became a close friend of Oliver Cromwell, then swapped sides again and was instrumental in the restoration of Charles II. Toned VF, missing loop.

P-Unlisted (PMG designated this note P-374pef), S/M#C301-86, One of 2 different varieties. This note has the vertical Chinese characters on face below portrait separated from each letter unlike the other note being offered in the following lot where they are all connected. Uniface front and back specimen banknotes in brown-orange. SYS in center top on face and bank building on back. Red Chinese specimen overprint, “00000” serial numbers and POC on face and “Specimen” overprint on back. Top of note has “8-17-48” and “L-302-F” for the face and “L-302-B” for the back”. Vertical note. The face is PMG graded Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ and the back is PMG graded Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. SBNC. Rare and very high grade essay banknote that is missing from most advanced collections and is possibly one of the finest examples known.
