Engraved frontispiece portrait of Townsend Harris. Original green cloth, gilt-lettered on spine, top edge gilt (very minor wear along spine ends and at corners). FIRST EDITION. Appointed the first United States Consul General to Japan in 1856, Harris negotiated the treaty between the U.S. and Japan that would secure trade between the two countries and open up Japan to the influences of Western culture. Henry Bone ARA. 1755-1834, `Portrait of a young lady wearing a white dress with frilled collar, half length`, enamel, inscribed, `Henry Bone ARA enamel painter to HRH The Prince of Wales Pixt 1804`, oval, 9cm x 7cm Bone was born in Truro, Cornwall, the son of a cabinet maker: At the age of 16 he was employed as a porcelain painter in Plymouth under William Cookworthy and moved with his master to Bristol in 1778. He moved to London at this time and began work as a jewellery and fan enameller. Bone married Elizabeth Vandermeulen in 1780 and the couple had twelve children, several of whom were successful enamel portrait artists. In 1800 he was appointed enamel painter to the Prince of Wales; in 1801 he was made an associate of the Royal Academy and enamel painter to Geroge III continuing to hold the appointment during the reigns of George IV and William IV. John Langdale Jones was born near Dublin and educated at a Jesuit School and Glengower. Family correspondence records him as having been `a school fellow of William O`Brien, later prominent in Parnell`s Party,`..When the family travelled to Dublin,` they travelled by Coach and Horse to the City where they occupied lodgings in Grayton Street.` John Langdale Jones later served in the Irish Royal Constabulary, reaching the position of Chief Commissioner
ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGE JAMESONE (1584-1644) Portrait miniature of a Gentleman, traditionally identified as William Murray,Colonel the 1st Earl of Dysart wearing a white lace collar, tunic and red sash, quarter-=length, oval, oil on copper 2 1/4 x 2 in (5.7 x 5.1cm) William Murray, the presumed sitter negotiated between King Charles 1 and The Covenanters. He was created Earl of Dysart in 1643 by King Charles 1 for his services to the King. He died in 1656.

(c. 1781-1860) Portrait Miniature of a Lady seated with a young Child inscribed on the ivory reverse `Henry Brooke Kirchhoffer pinxt Cork Jan 1806` watercolour on ivory, unglazed 4 x 3 3/4in (10.3 x 9.5cm) Henry Kirchhoffer entered the Dublin Society Schools in 1797.He exhibited in Dublin in 1801 before moving to Cork.He remained there for a number of years before returning to Dublin in 1816 He exhibited in the first Munster Exhibition in 1815..From then on he exhibited regularly in Dublin . He ws an original associate and member of the RHA.
