Henry VIII silver groat struck under Edward VI [1547-1551], Southwark, mm. -/E, reads:- CIVITAS LONDON, roses in forkends, Spink 2404, clear, GF with a ditto but of Canterbury and from Henry's Third Coinage [1544-1547], Spink 2373, flan a little angular but quite nice portrait, F and lastly a ditto but of York, Spink 2374, large irregular flan with short striking split at obverse 4 o'clock, looks to have been gilt at sometime, F [3]

A 21.5 x 13cm head and shoulders portrait of King Edward VII wearing a tweed jacket and a homburg hat in Marienbad, signed and dated "Edward R 1903" in black ink, platinum photographic print laid down on the original mount of the celebrated photographic studio J. F. Langhans, contemporary leather frame by Walter Jones of Sloane Street with gilt decorative details, glass insert and gilt maker's name printed on the easel back; some age toning and scratching to photograph, frame central panel on the rear is detached, overall size 27 x 18.5cm. King Edward VII used to visit every year the renown spa of Marienbad in Bohemia, where he made serious -and partially succesful- efforts in order to lose some weight. The provenance of the photograph is impeccable, since it was given by the King himself to his mistress Alice Keppel and was then inherited by her daughter, the socialite and writer Violet Trefusis. Formerly the property of Alice Kepell.

Mandela' in black marker on envelope and featuring two stamps issued in limited edition by South African Post Office; minor creasing to envelope, overall size 16 x 23cm. The stamp showing a photograph of Mandela by photographer Halden Krog was for domestic mail, whilst the stamp featuring a portrait of Mandela by Cyril Coetzee was for international postage.

A 53 x 37cm sheet featuring four black and white reproductions of Henri Matisse works: from top left Self Portrait in a Shirt , le Luxel, Madras Rouge and La Coiffeure, inscribed and signed in pencil to lower right margin below La Coiffeure "A Olga Meerson, amicalement Henri Matisse, 1910"; yellowing to paper, with some chipping to lower margin, a 11.5cm tear across upper edge and a 2.5cm tear to right border, light spotting and wear, particularly at corners. Matisse signature remains unaffected. Olga Meerson was a Russian pupil and model to Matisse, with whom she may have had a short affair. They portrayed each other in 1911. She then moved to Germany, where she married Heinz Pringsheim. After falling into depression she took her life in 1929 by throwing herself from the fourth floor of Hotel Adlon in Berlin.
An extensive collection of military interest An extensive collection of military interest, late 19th - mid 20th century; documents relating to Arthur William Holloway, an officer in the local Government department for Belgian Refugees, highlights including Royal documents appointing Holloway "Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire" (1918) and awarding him with the "Cross of Chevalier of the Order of the Crown" (1919); M.B.E. full size and miniature medals, miniature O.B.E. and medal worn in commemoration of "Their majestie's Silver Jubilee 6th May, 1935", all in original leather cases, original box, green leather gilt, George V cipher and lettering "Government Commission For Providing Occupation For Belgian Refugees, A.W. Holloway ESQ". Sold together with an autograph book containing clipped signatures and signed letters of prominent politicians military people mainly related to African campaigns, overall size 23.5 x 19.5cm. Signatures include Lord Roberts of Kandahar, Sir George White, Lord Kitchener, Field Marshal Lord Wolsely, Major-General Archibald Hunter, Major-General Sir H.M.L. Rundle, Major-General J.M. Babington, the Duke of Norfolk, Lord Hugh Kensington, Lord Hamilton, George Joachim Goschen and many others; most autographs are accompanied by photographs, portrait cards from the 1902 Transvaal series and Capstan Navy Cut cigarette cards and printed biographical information.
