Bumble.Katie wanted to convey the importance that the Co-op place on being a part of their local communities when decorating this sheep. The bumblebees, having their own vital community, was a great way of representing this along with presenting the opportunity to raise awareness of the rapidly declining population of UK bees. She also included a nod to her recent series "Animals in Hats" with Mr.Bear on the side, eating honey from a Co-op jar. The sheep's main bodies measure approximately 90cm long x 72cm high x 30cm wide. Maggi Hambling painting.Moon and Sea, Oil on board, 2018. Dimensions of painting 9cm x 14.5cm (overall frame 24cm x 29cm), signed by Maggi Hambling on back. Artist:Maggi Hambling A household name throughout Britain, Maggi Hambling is a Suffolk-born artist and sculptor, whose striking artworks can be found in major public and private collections, including the British Museum, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, and Tate. Though famed for her public sculptures - namely Scallop (2003), in Aldeburgh, and A Conversation with Oscar Wilde, in London - in 1980-1, Hambling was the first Artist in Residence at the National Gallery in London, following which she has been exhibited in some of the most distinguished galleries and institutions across Britain, and indeed further afield. Having studied at Camberwell College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art, Hambling developed her highly distinctive style, in which sculptural swirls of paint culminate to create the crashing waves of her intense seascapes, for which she is renowned, and many of which are inspired by her beloved Suffolk coast. When Maggi heard about the Eye Sheep Art Trail, she was going to decorate a sheep for us. However, due to injury, she was unable to do so but instead Maggi has kindly donated one of her beautiful seascape paintings to be sold at the auction to raise money for The Blossom Charity.
