BADER DOUGLAS: (1910-1982) British World War II Ace (22.5 victories), recognized for his important role during the Battle of Britain. A printed 4to programme for the Bearsden & Milngavie Highland Games at Kimardinny Playing Fields, Bearsden, Glasgow, on 9th June 1979, opened by Bader in his capacity as Chieftan of the Games, and signed by him in blue ink to an inside page beneath his portrait and printed text. Together with a commemorative cover issued in honour of Bader's Bus Company individually signed by seven Battle of Britain pilots and other individuals associated with the pilot comprising Denis Crowley Milling, Hugh Dundas, Johnnie Johnson, Paddy Barthropp, Lord Goodman, Marmaduke Hussey and Joan Bader. All have signed with their names alone in bold blue and black inks. Post marked 11th September 1979. VG, 2 Douglas Bader made his last flight, in his Beech 95 Travelair, on 4th June 1979, less than a week before signing the present programme.

Five mostly 9ct gold mounted gem set pendants, a pair of gold mounted cultured pearl earstuds, a pair of Masonic cufflinks, various dress studs, a 9ct gold mounted oval shell cameo brooch, carved as the portrait of a lady, twenty further brooches and pins, a silver fob medallion, a pendant with gilt horseshoe motifs, two charm bracelets, two pairs of earrings, two odd earrings, various mostly silver neckchains and sundry, (qty).
A gold mounted oval shell cameo pendant, carved as a seated figure with a classical urn, within a cannetille surround, with a 9ct gold curb link neckchain, on a sprung hook shaped clasp, a 9ct gold mounted oval shell cameo pendant, carved as the portrait of a lady, with a 9ct gold neckchain, two gem set pendants, with gold neckchains and a silver gilt and gem set pendant necklace, with two cases, (5).
A late Louis XVI ormolu and white marble mantle clockThe case surmounted with a foliage-filled urn, above the drum case with laurel festooned musical trophy apron below, flanked to each side by a feather finial above black sectional column, the shaped base with a painted portrait roundel of a lady, on stepped foot and a bow-fronted plinth, with toupie feet; the white 4 ½ in. enamel dial with Arabic numerals and pierced moon hands, with twin train fusée movement and anchor escapement, striking on a bell52cm. high overall. 1 pendulum. IllustratedA very similar clock is in illustrated in Tardy, French Clocks The World Over, Part Two, 5th Edition, Paris 1981, p. 66 and is in the collection of the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Geneva.
A George III portrait miniature on ivory of Mrs Sophia Jane Maria Beal Bonnell (1748-1841), in 'Turkish' style or 'Turquerie', in a floral engraved gold frame with glazed back inset with hair plait and sitter's details, the image 5.1cm high. George Engleheart (1750-1829), a George III portrait miniature on ivory of Mrs Sophia Beal Bonnell (1748-1841), set in a green enamel and gold frame with glazed reverse with plaited hair and enamel oval inscribed "Je Vous Aime Aimez Moi", the image 5.5cm high. IllustratedFootnote; formerly one of a pair in a double frame- the other depicting Mrs Bonnell's friend Miss Fanny A'hmuty. The pair were split some years later with the portrait of Miss A'hmuty selling for £1,000 lot 103, November 1990, Geering & Colyer auctioneers Tenterden Kent.

Royalty and Folk Art; a George III hand-worked 'hair stitch' self-portrait worked by Mary Anne Harvey Bonnell (1763-1853), incorporating hair from six friends and a small section worked from the hair of Edward IV, the image 21.5cm x 16.5cm, gilt frame with handwritten text to the reverse. A very rare cabinet on stand decorated with hand-made paper filigree and set with oval hairwork panels, decorated by Mary Anne Harvey Bonnell of Pelling Place, Berkshire, completed Circa 1789, is with Carlton Hobbs London.
Mrs Edwin Dalton (Magdalena Ross) (1801-1874), an early Victorian portrait miniature on ivory of James Bonnell (1808-1869), signed and dated 1843 to the reverse, set in a red morocco leather folding case, the left hand side inset with glazed hair plait centred with white oval disc inscribed "James Bonnell Esq. April 1842"(cased), the image 8cm high, the case 15.5cm high. IllustratedFootnote: James was the son of James Bonnell of Fillen Shore, married Elizabeth Lowry and was a courtier to Queen Victoria.
An early/mid-17th century English or Swedish school portrait miniature of a man in high wig, set in a glazed (damaged) frame with turquoise blue enamel back, the image 3.1cm; and a 17th century Continental portrait miniature on copper of a man with blue coat and gold buttons, incised 'EGS' to the reverse, the image 5.8cm (2).
