James I (1603-1625), Second coinage, Sixpence, 1606, mm. escallop, fourth bust, 3.01g/1h (N 2103; S 2658). Weak in places, otherwise good very fine with clear portrait £500-£600 --- Provenance: E. Burstal Collection, Glendining Auction, 15-16 May 1968, lot 332 (part); S.A. Bole Collection, Part I, DNW Auction 89, 29 September 2010, lot 1517
Charles I (1625-1649), Truro or Exeter mint, Halfcrown, mm. rose, large equestrian portrait, walking horse, oval garnished shield, 14.04g/1h (Bull 660/16; Besly J16; SCBI Brooker 1027, same obv. die; N 2550/1; S 3065). A little weak at 12 o’clock, otherwise about extremely fine, light tone £700-£900
Ireland, Richard III, Cross and Pellets coinage, Penny, Dublin, mm. obscured, annulets by neck, rev. quatrefoil in centre, reads [—]tas [—]bl[—], 0.48g/12h (Burns W-17R, same dies; S 6410). Small of flan, otherwise very fine, extremely rare £1,200-£1,500 --- This type was originally given to Waterford by Jasper Burns (hence the W- reference number) on the basis of an attribution in Künker Auktion 137, 11 March 2008, lot 3331. Burns comments in his footnote that ‘the portrait and crown much more closely resemble those on the Dublin issue of Richard III than on the Waterford coins of Edward’. The present specimen removes any doubt about the issuer while offering only tantalising glimpses of the mint name. The cataloguers, as well as an independent expert, feel that on the basis of the letters visible, an attribution to Dublin is the more likely
English School, 19th century,Portrait of a gentlemanoil on canvas76 x 63cmCondition report: There is a hole to the lower right of the canvas, which has been patched from the reverse but paint loss is still visible (please refer to images). There is a fine craquelure to the face, and deeper but stable craquelure around the gentleman's head. The paint has bubbled on the man's collar (his right-side), which looks as if it has been caused by bitumen or something similar. Under UV light, there are significant areas of re-painting and re-touching to the background and to the man's clothes. A light surface dirt covers the canvas. The canvas is slightly loose. The frame is in fairly good condition, although there are a few losses to the frame. Please refer to images for more detail.
