[Stevenson, Robert Louis]. The History of Edinburgh, from the Earliest Accounts to the Present Time..by Alexander Kincaid, pub. Edinburgh, 1787, contains one folding map only (of two), contemp. half calf, heavily rubbed to extrems., 8vo, together with Hamilton (Clayton), On the Trail of Stevenson, New York, 1915, b & w illusts., pencil notes to endpapers, rough-trimmed, orig. qtr. cloth with paper labels, rubbed, large 8vo The former contains the ink signature of Robert Stevenson (1772-1850), the celebrated engineer, to the title page and the bookplate of his grandson the author Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894). A portrait plate of the senior Robert Stevenson has also been tipped-in onto the first blank. (2)

Churchill (Right Hon. Winston S.). Head and shoulders portrait by Harold Bird, c. 1941, small original pencil drawing (approx. 8 x 7 cm) on an album leaf, signed lower right in capitals, a littel dusty, unrelated sketch (by Bird) to verso, signed and dated 1941, remains of mounting marks to corners, approx. 17 x 12 cm Harold Bird was born in Heywood, Rochdale, Lancashire on 20th June 1920. He was an artist, model maker and military historian who served in the Far EAst for part of WWII [from information supplied by the vendor]. (1)

Signed half length portrait of Churchill sitting in a chair wearing a bow tie and holdling a large cigar, pub. 1944, col. litho. print, printed Churchill quote ("We are all of us defending..a Cause..") to lower right border, boldly signed in the centre of lower mount by Churchill in brown ink and dated 1944, approx. 51 x 62 cm, framed and glazed with presentation label to lower frame edge, 'Presented by Charles Greaves, Esq., 1944' This portrait was painted in 1942 by Arthur Pan, and published the following year to raise money for Clementine Churchill Russia.
