(Copy of invoice available upon request.)Acquired by the present owner at the above sale LOT NOTES ANDRE DEVAMBEZAndre Devambez was a French painter and illustrator. His work includes, on the one hand, religious and historical compositions of academic style and realistic portraits; on the other hand, humorous cartoons, published especially in le Rire (the Laughter) and l'Illustration (the Illustration), as well as many genre paintings, populated with a crowd of small characters seen in plunging perspective, multiple scenes inspired by the Commune and the First War World. He is represented in Paris: Mus_e d'Orsay, Victor Hugo museum, in the museums of Quimper, Tourcoing, Rouen, Dijon, Cholet, as well as by an important collection of works at the museum of Beauvais. Devambez also executed a series of 12 decorative paintings on the theme of modern life and inventions for the French Embassy in Vienna (1910).
