A rare Doulton Lambeth presentation vase, 1885, the elongated ovoid body incised with amonite scrolls below a frilled mouth and sprigged with Chinese and European motifs including a portrait profile of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, between garter belts and inscribed 'Albert Medal, Society Arts, 1885' the impulse given to production of art pottery in England and another 'presented by HRH the Prince of Wales to Henry Doulton, December 21st 1825 at Lambeth Art Pottery', impressed rosette mark, collection label of Sir Leslie Joseph, 16cm The form is almost exactly that of vases produced by Hichozan Shinpo at Arita and would have been imported almost comtemporaneously. Sir Leslie Joseph was an inveterate collector, best known for his comprehensive collection of Swansea and Nantgarry CONDITION REPORT: No obvious damage i.e. chips or cracks. Possible restoration to the rim, as a couple of areas are soft to tooth. The neck has been sprayed a slightly different shade, but under UV light it does not show restoration.

Sir Joshua Reynolds painted his portrait, which was purchased for the nation in 1824, and he is also depicted in many commemorative pieces by Staffordshire potters. CONDITION REPORT: Paper browned.
