Robert Lenkiewicz (1941-2002), Portrait of Cyril Restieaux, Bishop of Plymouth, Three-quarter length, seated, Oil on canvas, 167cm x 91cm. Although his painting appears on no exhibition list published by the artist, The Lenkiewicz Foundation are inclined to date it to 1982. At that time, Robert Lenkiewicz was working on a Project (an exhibition of pictures and notes on a related theme) called `Death`. Amongst the sitters for the Project were several prominent clergymen in the Plymouth area. However, it is known that not all the sitters gave their consent for their portraits to be shown in the context of the exhibition. It is likely therefore that the painting was given to the sitter and never exhibited. We are grateful to The Lenkiewicz Foundation for providing information relating to the picture
