Richard III (1483-85), Penny, 0.54g, York under Archbishop Rotherham, m.m. boar's head 1/-, rev. quatrefoil on long cross, trefoil of pellets in angles (Stewartby p. 446; N.1686; S.2166), small flan as usual, weakness on key, nearly very fine for issue with an above average portrait of Richard III Stewartby p.382 notes; 'The flow of ill-struck and often illegible pence from the northern episcopal mints continued unabated. Drum Chair designed by Cecil Beaton circa 1940 Probably made by Savages, no marks or signature. 87cm high This chair was originally designed as part of a set of circus themed furniture to fit out Cecil Beaton`s bedroom at Ashcombe House in Wiltshire. The bedroom was painted with circus related murals by friends of Beatons during wet Sunday afternoons and is described in Buckle, Richard (Ed.) Self Portrait with Friends, The Selected Diaries of Cecil Beaton, 1926 - 1974, London 1974. A similar example is in the V&A Museum number W.54-1984 Condition Report: No condition report
Spectandum Dedit Ortelius Mortalib. Orbem, Orbi Spectandum Galleus Ortelium . This famous portrait of Ortelius, at the age of about 50, was engraved by Philippe Galle and appeared in the Theatrum from 1579 onwards. Few other portraits of the great cartographer have survived. The Latin title translation is, ""By looking, Ortelius gave to mortal beings the world, by looking at his face, Galleus gave them Ortelius."" The portrait is surrounded in a strapwork and garland frame. A nice impression with attractive old color and marginal soiling. 8.3"" W x 12.7"" H . Ortelius/Galle, 1579
