Dutch/Flemish School (17th century) Portrait of a man wearing a ruff, half length Red chalk on paper laid to card, 19cm by 13cm See illustration. laid down on card, upper edge taped to mount. there is pronounced evidence of the glue used to lay the sheet down at all four corners, more noticibly so at upper right and lower left. some small tears / losses to sheet along lower edge , large loss approx 3cm from lower left hand corner and approx 0.5cm in length, further smaller losses and tears throughout left hand side , crease/tear to upper edge centre, diagonal crease accross entire width intersecting the gentalmans nose, significant staining to sheet with sporadic foxing spots. further more minor creases and losses
After Sir Anthony Van Dyck (1599-1641) Flemish Portrait of Charles I in armour Oil on canvas, 40cm by 30.5cm See illustration . old reline, covered in a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish, some minor rubbing/abrasions to edges in general. general strengthening /overpaint to background, kings shoulder, collar, his hair, the left hand side of his collar and general shadow in and around and beneath the coller on his right hand side. less consistant retouching and overpainting to his left hand side moustache, lipe, nostril and chin, slight stretcher shadow. paint slightly thin and flattened in places.
British School (18th/19th century) Portrait of William, Duke of Cumberland, half length standing wearing a red and ermine trimmed cloak, armoured breastplate and royal blue sash Oil on canvas, 35.5cm by 30cm . relined cleaned and revarnished now covered in a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. surface of the canvas is slightly flattened from the restoratation process. evidence of retouching and overpainitng to all four edges with less consistant retouching to elements of the Dukes hair. shadow and definition along gold edge of curtain on left hand side has been strenghtened with further retouches within the background, between said curtain and his right arm and shoulder. further retouching within the darker shades and shadows of his right hand sleeve and parts of the lower right hand corner. some of this retouching has deteriorated and is evident by eye. varying sized craquelure throughout surface, some of the finer craqueleure is lifting and resulting in some tiny losses within the red of his robe on the right hand side and odd places otherwise minor rubbing and old damages / restoration in evidence to edges.

Flecks of what appears to be brown paint across surface. Frame in good and sound condition. Possible small areas of overpaint to left hand side foliage of the tree and at sitters left. The bottom left hand corner has streaks of an unknown/ liquid which is incongrous to the original surface. Not examined with a UV light.
A Continental Silver-Gilt Snuff-Box, Maker's Mark HE? Only, Circa 1780, Perhaps Scandinavian, cartouche shaped, the hinged cover and base chased with figures within scrolls, the sides chased with classical portrait busts, 6.1cm wide, 1oz 8dwt, 43gr. Marked on bezel with maker's mark only. The mark is somewhat worn or poorly struck and so is only partly visible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the gilding., There has been a repair to the bottom front edge and there is some minor bruising overall.
An SS Great Eastern/Leviathan Commemorative Nautilus Shell, circa 1855, engraved with a portrait of the paddle steamer and inscribed The Leviathan 25,000 tons, length 690 feet, breadth 82 Do, depth 60 Do, across paddle boxes 14 Do and with flowers and flags, 20cm long Launched in 1858, the Leviathan, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, was the largest ship ever built at the time. The costs of building and launching ruined the Eastern Steam Navigation Company and so she lay unfinished for a year before being sold to the Great Eastern Ship Company, after which she was renamed The Great Eastern. One hole to the shell. Other natural flaws to the shell and some wear.

FINELY BOUND BY ANTOINE MICHEL PADELOUP OR PADELOUP LE JEUNE in contemporary tan morocco gilt with red and brown morocco onlays including a large central starburst on each cover with a cut-out revealing a painted metal plaque of a coloured coat-of-arms on the upper cover and an unidentified monogram on the lower cover, the spine with red morocco lettering-piece and red morocco onlays in the compartments, blue watered silk liners, gilt edges ([?]skillfully rebacked some time ago, some very light rubbing). The binder's small printed label reading "Relié par Padeloup le jeune, place Sorbonne a Paris" is pasted at the foot of the title. A printed note, pasted onto the front free endpaper, reads: "Ce livre a figuré à l' exposition 'Dix Siècles de Livres français' (Lucerne, 9 juillet-2 octobre 1949) sous le no. 383 du catalogue." Beneath it is a small unidentified label.
