The book is filled with references to contemporary botanists and gardeners and it provides one of the best single sources of information on gardening practices and styles in early 17th-century England.

Ephemera – General Tom Thumb Wedding portrait photograph showing him with his equally miniscule wife together with an example of one of his calling cards. General Tom Thumb whose real name was Chares Sherwood Stratton was one of the main attractions at the P T Barnum circus. He was extremely popular both in America and in the UK and performed twice in front of Queen Victoria. After his marriage to Lavinia Warren in 1863 he was received by Abraham Lincoln at the White House
English Civil War Mercurius Civicu London’s Intelligencer or Truth impartially related from thence to the whole Kingdome to prevent mis-information. Number 104 covering the period May 15th to May 22nd 1645. 8pp sm4to cut and collated. Featuring a woodcut engraved portrait of Charles I at head and with news that the King had ordered the Governor of Maryland in Virginia to take all London ships and to seize upon all debts due to London Merchants there is also report on the taking of Montgomery Castle and the raising of the siege of Westchester as well as the execution of one of the Kentish Mutineers. There is also a report on the taking of Hawkesley House in Staffordshire by the Royalists and the killing of all Parliamentary soldiers there. News from America also includes a report on a massacre of settlers by tribes of Indians and the establishment of new forts as a result.

Durham – Walworth group of three indentures on vellum and one on paper relating to Walworth including a recovery of George II no portrait but a portion (about 40%) of the Chancery Seal of George II an indenture on paper dated 1607 being the division of the Manor of Walworth an obligation bond of 1678 and a copy of a recovery document.
Ephemera – An Exiceman’s Warrant document on a single leaf of vellum dated 1800 being the commission for an Exciseman with a fine initial portrait of George III contained within an elaborate initial letter and bearing the signatures and seals of five Commissioners. Partially printed document with ms insertions overall dusting and a little weakness where originally folded but legible throughout and a most uncommon document
Thomas Bardwell/Portrait of The Reverend Francis Barton/half length, in clerical dress/signed and dated, 1765/oil on canvas, 76cm x 63.5cm (30" x 25") /Provenance: Property of Sir Thomas Beauchamp-Proctor, Bt, Langley Park, Norfolk and by descent. Sir Thomas Beauchamp-Proctor, 2nd Bt (1756-1827) was a notable collector who was advised, after his inheritance in 1773, by the artist Henry Walton, Sir Thomas` most celebrated acquisition was Poussin`s `Adoration of th Magi`, now in the National Gallery, London. A Carved Ivory Bust Portrait of Wiliam (sic) Bateman, 19th century, on an oval plaque within carved borders with ribbon title, 13cm high, framed William Bateman was the Bishop of Norwich 1344-1355, and contributed to the establishment of Gonville Hall, Cambridge and founded the College of the Scholars of the Holy Trinity of Norwich, Cambridge.
