It would appear that she acquired a number of the signatures during the Tsarevich Nicholas’s Grand Tour of the East 1890-91 during which he visited India from 23rd December 1890 – 12th January 1891. It was during this tour that the future Tsar Nicholas II was the subject of a failed assassination attempt (known as the Otsu incident) on 11th May 1891 during his visit to Japan.

PEGOUD ADOLPHE: (1889-1915) French Aviator who became the first fighter ace in history during World War I. A rare vintage signed postcard photograph by Pegoud, the aerial image depicting the aviator landing his plane at the Aerodrome Bleriot having completed a flying loop. A crowd of onlookers can be seen rushing towards the aircraft. With a circular inset portrait of Pegoud and brief printed caption in French at the head of the postcard. Signed ('A. Pegoud') in bold, purple fountain pen ink with his name alone to a clear area at the head of the image. Autographs of Pegoud are rare in any form as a result of his death at the age of 26 when he was shot down and killed in action during World War I. About EX

FONDA HENRY: (1905-1982) American Actor, Academy Award winner. Vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Fonda seated in a half length pose. The original Paramount Pictures publicity portrait dates from 1957, the same year in which Fonda starred as Davis (Juror 8) in the classic American courtroom drama film 12 Angry Men. Signed by Fonda in dark fountain pen ink across a clear area of the background. VG

 DINTER ARTUR: (1876-1948) German Writer and Nazi Politician, an early, close associate of Adolf Hitler. In recognition of his loyalty to the Nazi Party (NSDAP) Dinter was rewarded with the single digit membership number of 5. A rare D.S., Artur Dinter, being his personal Third Reich identity card, Wolfach, 8th July 1942. The partially printed folding small 8vo document is completed in ink and was issued by the District Administrator of Wolfach and provides details of Dinter's identification number (A02717), full name, place and date of birth, occupation as well as distinguishing marks ('cut marks on both index fingers'). The identity card, dated as being valid until 7th July 1947, features an original passport size photograph of Dinter in a head and shoulders pose, alongside which appear fingerprints taken from his right and left index fingers. Signed by Dinter beneath his portrait and fingerprints and countersigned by the issuing officer. With various official circular stamps featuring the Nazi eagle and swastika. Two file holes to the left edge, only very slightly affecting two words of printed text. Some very light, extremely minor creasing and age wear, otherwise VG   In 1942, the year in which the present identity card was issued to Dinter, he was brought before a Special Court in Freiburg im Breisgau to be tried for an offence and several years earlier he had been expelled from the Reichsschrifttumskammer, Nazi Germany's official writers' association, effectively banning him from publishing any of his works.

 ABERDEEN EARL OF: (1784-1860) British Prime Minister 1852-55. A.L.S., Aberdeen, one page, 8vo, Hotel Meurice, Paris, n.d. ('Tuesday morng.'), to 'My dear Lawrence'. Aberdeen states that he was sorry not to have found his correspondent at home yesterday, adding 'I shall be most unwilling to leave Paris without seeing you' and further continuing 'I am desirous too of seeing the fine work which I understand you have produced here, but still more so of seeing you'. Aberdeen requests that Lawrence lets him know at what hour he will be available to see him 'for tomorrow morning at seven o'clock I continue my journey to Nice'. Lightly mounted, otherwise VG   Aberdeen's correspondent may have been Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830) English Portrait Painter and President of the Royal Academy 1820-30. Lawrence visited Paris on several occasions and one of his last commissions was a portrait of Aberdeen.

LATHAM HUBERT: (1883-1912) French Aviation Pioneer, the first person to attempt to cross the English Channel in an aeroplane. Due to engine failure on his first of two attempts to cross the Channel, he became the first person to land an aeroplane on a body of water. Vintage signed postcard photograph depicting Latham's aircraft in flight and with a small inset circular portrait of the pilot in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in dark fountain pen ink with his name alone to a light area at the head of the image. Autographs of Latham are rare in any form following his early death at the age of 29 in somewhat uncertain circumstances whilst on an expedition of the French Congo. Vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph, an appealing close-up portrait of Garland. Signed ('To Roy - love, Judy Garland') in fountain pen ink to a light area of the background in the upper right corner of the image. The signature is somewhat faded although reasonably legible.
