HRH Alexandra Princess of Wales (later HM Queen Alexandra), fine signed presentation portrait photograph of The Princess wearing diamond and pearl necklaces around her neck, signed in ink on mount 'Alexandra 1895' and inscribed on the reverse by A. E. Watson, the Chaplain at the British Embassy at St. Petersburg - 'Sent to me by The Princess of Wales through Miss Knollys her lady in waiting with a letter on Wednesday January 12th 1895, the day in which she left St. Petersburg / Copenhagen en route for England'. The Princess was in Russia following the illness of her sister's husband Tsar Alexander III. She attended his funeral and the marriage of Tsar Nicholas II. Unframed, 41cm x 32cm
Fine late Victorian Royal Presentation silver capstan inkwell given by TRH The Duke and Duchess of York (later King George V and Queen Mary), to their personal doctor, Sir Alan Reeve Manby, for attending them on their Royal Tour of the Colonies 1901 - the hinged lid inset with silver plaque with relief portrait busts of The Duke and Duchess, the underside of the lid with Royal Yacht crowned anchor and rose motif and inscription 'TRH The Duke and Duchess of York Visit to the Colonies 1900', the inkwell with gadrooned borders and original glass liner with star cut base (hallmarked Birmingham 1900 Nathan & Hayes) CONDITION REPORT In good original condition - the liner is in good order

GEORGE ROBERT LEFTWICH (1846-1929) BritishPersimmon With John Watts UpOil on canvas, signed, inscribed Newmarket and dated 1896, inscribed to verso, framed and glazed. 49.5 x 39 cm. Note: Persimmon (1893-1908) was a British thoroughbred racehorse and sire, bred by his owner The Prince of Wales, and trained throughout his career by Richard Marsh at his Egerton House Stable at Newmarket. In 1896, when this portrait was painted, his major wins included the Epsom Derby, the St Leger and the Jockey Club Stakes. His win at the Derby was the first royal victory for more than a century and his winning time of 2 minutes 42 seconds broke the race record by a full second. CONDITION REPORTS: Generally good, expected wear, crack to glazing, uninspected behind glass, some crazing and slight lifting visible.

Note: The present portrait of the white horse is one on which the artist had based a further work commissioned by White Horse Distillers for their boardroom. Sold together with a letter from the artist dated 2nd June 99 and receipt for Vost's dated 080999 for £800 plus commission and also an inscribed page from the original catalogue.
