A fine black fountain pen ink signature ('Theodore Roosevelt') on a slim 8vo printed card (neatly trimmed from the original size) from the White House, Washington. Accompanied by an unsigned printed 8vo Birthday Anniversary Program issued by the Women's Roosevelt Memorial Association, 27th October 1944, and featuring a head and shoulders portrait of Roosevelt to the front cover. CROSBY BING: (1903-1977) American singer & actor, Academy Award winner. Signed and inscribed 10 x 8 photograph, a close-up portrait of Crosby wearing a hat and with a golf club resting on one shoulder. Signed in bold black ink across a clear area of the image. Dated 14th July 1977 in an unidentified hand to the verso, exactly three months before Crosby died from a heart attack having just completed a game of golf in Madrid. Murphy (1892-1987, American physician, Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine, 1934) and John Eccles (1903-1997, Australian neurophysiologist and philosopher, Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine, 1963). NOBEL PRIZE WINNERS: An excellent multiple signed commemorative cover issued in honour of Fritz Pregl and featuring his colour image and a postage stamp with his portrait, post marked in Vienna, 12th December 1973, individually signed by Werner Heisenberg (1901-1976, German theoretical physicist, Nobel Prize winner for Physics 1932), Feodor Lynen (1911-1979, German biochemist, Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine, 1964), Manfred Eigen (1927-2019, German biophysical chemist, Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry, 1967) and Ernst Otto Fischer (1918-2007, German chemist, Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry, 1973). All have signed in blue inks to clear areas of the cover, Eigen adding the place and date, Gottingen, 27th August 1974, in his hand. HELMHOLTZ HERMANN VON: (1821-1894) German physicist and physician who made significant contributions in several scientific fields. A.L.S., H. Helmholtz, one page, 8vo, Heidelberg, 28th March 1871, to a gentleman. Helmholtz announces that he is leaving Heidelberg for Berlin and has 'given orders to the photographer who has made my last and best portrait to send you a copy of it for the Royal Ophthalmic Hospital', concluding by remarking 'With my best thanks for the honourable place you propose to give to this portrait'. Some light overall age toning and a few minor stains, G In 1851 Helmholtz became world famous when he revolutionised the field of ophthalmology with the invention of the ophthalmoscope, an instrument used to examine the inside of the human eye. The Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital was founded at Charterhouse Square in 1805 by John Cunningham Saunders, assisted by John Richard Farre.
Georges Croegaert (Belgium, 1848-1923)Portrait of a Belle Epoque bride in a veil, signed lower left and dated '1885 Paris', oil on panel, 24.5 cm x 19.5 cm, within a moulded gilt gesso frame, the reverse with previous inventory numbers and stampsBorn in Antwerp in 1848, Georges Croegaert received his earliest academic training at the Académie des Beaux-Arts. In 1876, the artist moved to Paris where he spent the remainder of his life painting portraits and interior scenes. In Paris, he adopted van Beer's realism in representing women and became a rival of Francois Brunery and Jean Georges Vibert for the reputation as the leading artist in the specific genre of Cardinal paintings. This portrait is a great demonstration of the artist's delicate and refined representation of women with intricate details such as the veil, the flowers and lace.

These militant firearm holding angels are striking by their unusual combination of firearms, religion and fashion, which are typical of the Calamarca works. The movement started in Peru and then spread to the Andes, Bolivia and Argentina.

Signature clear. Hair plait and paintwork itself in good condition. Frame with some cracking to the lacquer work and dirty to the edges. CIRCLE OF SIR GODFREY KNELLER "Gentleman (presumed a Baron) in gold trimmed and lace decorated coat, a cane in his right hand, his gloved left hand upon his hip, a landscape with castle unfolding in background, a feather plumed helmet at his side" a portrait study, three quarter length, oil on canvas, unsigned, housed in a good giltwood and gesso frame with Paron coronet surmount, 123 cm x 99 cm CONDITION REPORTS The piece has been cut and re-lined though some time ago. There is craquelure to the surface throughout. Overall condition seems at least sound though could certainly do with a clean. Under UV light there are multiple areas of restoration. Some visible to the naked eye - some less so due to the browning of the varnish though even under the UV light, the potential can be seen. See images for further detail. The frame again basically sound though with some damage and loss to the gilding. The crown surmount has one ball missing and all but one tassel. See again images for further detail.
