An early 20th century Continental porcelain dish with pierced border. Painted to the centre with the portrait of a lady wearing a feathered hat and cape. Cross and dot mark after Meissen Marcolini period, 30cm wide. Condition report intended as a guide only.Section of repair to the pierced border.
A cased waxed relief portrait of Pope Benedict XIII (1649 - 1730), surmounted by the inscription "BENEDICTVS - XIII - PONT - MAX, contained within a wooden box, the lid hand-painted with the keys of heaven, with further floral & fruit designs to the base & interior, the whole 9cm in diameter. NOTE: two similar portraits of an identical size by Johann Georg Sindler (1669 - 1732) exist in the V&A ( A6 - 1996 & A45 1940)
Cecil Jameson (b.1884 Christchurch, New Zealand - 1962), Waterloo Bridge, Evening, signed watercolour, housed in a gilt glazed frame, the watercolour 28cm x 22cmKnown as portraitist Cecil Jameson was born in Christchurch, studied in Wellington under J M Nairn and Frances Hodgkins. In 1904 he came to England, becoming a student at the Royal Academy Schools, Lambeth and Kensington. Member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, exhibited portraits at the Royal Academy, Paris Salon, and the Glasgow Institute; and watercolours at the New English Art Club from the 1930's
A 19th century gilt framed oil on board, portrait of an English gentleman, possibly Donald Nicoll Esq., Justice of the Peace for Middlesex and Westminster, Commissionaire of Lieutenancy and the late Sheriff of London and Middlesex, 90 x 64cm, together with an oak framed and glazed engraving of the same gentleman. Condition Report: These pictures came from a private house.

English School (Early 19th Century): Portrait of John Cattley (1785-1862), oil on canvas unsigned 51cm x 40cmProvenance: purchased from the Cattley sisters, spinsters from York and descendants of John Cattley, around 40 years ago.John Cattley was the son of Thomas Cattley III, a farmer who died in Stearsby in 1836. John moved to London and formed the import and export company Cattleys and Carr, with its headquarters on Moorgate Street. The family had strong links with Russia, with several living in St. Petersburg, and the company imported Russian tallow. Cattley married Frances Garrett in 1815 and together they had eight children, seven girls and one boy; John Garrett Cattley, the eldest, became a member of the board of his father's company.
