A pair of English decorated Paris porcelain scallop-shell dishes painted with titled scenes of Lambeth Palace and Blackfriars Bridge, signed by Maryanne Bloxam and dated 1825, 24cm wide. Note: Maryanne Bloxam (Mrs Frederick H. Hemming) was by repute an independent decorator of porcelain. Her portrait and the companion one of her husband were painted by Thomas Lawrence, circa 1824/25 and both now hang in the Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth, Texas. In her portrait, she is depicted holding a paint brush.
A pair of English rustic pottery oval bust portrait plaques of a lady and gentleman in early 19th century dress, possibly Lord Nelson and Emma Hamilton, painted in shades of ochre, green and brown, 27cm high, early 19th century. Note: Purchased from J. & J. May, 40 Church Street, Kensington, W8 for £300 and given to the vendor in 1975.
A large naval commemorative glass goblet, the generous bucket bowl engraved with a ship of the line and an oval half-length portrait medallion of a naval officer and bearing the legend H.M.S MARS. and CAPTAIN JOHN MANLEY, supported on a knopped stem and domed foot, 29.5cm high, circa 1900. H.M.S. Mars was a 74 gun 3rd rate ship of the line launched in 1794 and broken up in 1823. She was present at Trafalgar and Capt. Manley RN had her from July 1798 to May 1799.
Four Inside-Painted Glass Snuff Bottles, The first is of hexagonal section painted with bamboo, pine and orchid, inscribed, dated, signed and with seals; the second is of flattened form painted with a horse in a landscape, under a folding fan featuring butterflies to one side, the reverse with a portrait of a warrior, with an inscription and a seal; the third is of flattened form with a scholar overlooking a river to one side, the reverse with another view of the river and landscape; the fourth of rounded form flanked by a pair of faux handles, painted to one side to depict a quaint landscape with a river and mountains, the reverse with another similar landscape.
