Chinese school, 18th/19th CenturyPortrait of a nobleman and consortSeated on elaborate thrones and wearing brightly coloured formal robes, he with a badge inscribed 'Huang en xu ci', she with a rank badge depicting a golden pheasant, ink and gouache on paper.90cm x 90cmFOOTNOTE:The sitters in this portrait are unidentified but appear to be of noble birth or royal lineage as denoted by the inscription on the robes. The work appears to have unfinished areas suggesting that it may be preparatory for a larger portrait or possibly a copy of one.

In fine condition; together with a postcard (half portrait) of the late General Michael Collins, T.D. in military uniform with cane and breast pocket unbuttoned. Edges frayed. (2)
A PAIR OF RARE BELLEEK SECOND PERIOD 'COLLINS' VASES, (1891-1926) each of open rectangular form, the front with profile portrait of Michael Collins within a raised circular reserve, the sides with Celtic motifs in gilt and brown tones. 10.75cm highThe ‘Michael Collins’ portrait vases are particularly rare and are known to exist in just two variations of similar design. One featuring a portrait profile of Collins to one side and Griffith to the opposing side.This particular lot has been modelled to an unrecorded design and features Michael Collins alone. These examples are likely to be a special commission requested after the death of Collins in 1922.Therefore one can assume a date of production between 1922 and the end of the 2nd period in 1926.
MACDONAGH, THOMASLast and Inspiring Address of Thomas MacDonagh, no printer, no date, but 1916, single quarto sheet printed one side only, laid down on a backing page, with an original card containing a medallion portrait of Thomas McDonagh within a laurel wreath draped by the tricolour and with two crossed 1798 pikes in the background: 1916 / And never an enobled death / May Son of Ireland fear ! inside an original Christmas card quoting a verse by William Rooney 'The Dead who Fell for Freedom', Grave, grave, their names on high'.
A FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH OF SEAN T. O'CEALLAIGH, a very good framed photograph of O'Kelly as a young man, probably circa 1920, signed by the photographer Henri Manuel, and inscribed on mount ‘To Anne, with affectionate regards, Sean T. Ó Ceallaigh’. Framed and glazed. 14.5 x 20cm A handsome portrait, which shows the quality of O'Kelly's features before they became blurred by advancing age and good living. Sinn Fein diplomatic representative in Paris around 1920, O’Ceallaigh was later a Fianna Fail Minister and became second President of Ireland.The recipient is Anne Bullitt, daughter of the American diplomat William Bullitt.

Some, like Hamilton Rowan, Emerson and Wyse, were actively involved.
SOMERVILLE, EDITH OENONEAn unpublished original sketch by Edith Somerville, illustration for her classic work 'Some Adventures of an Irish R.M.', pencil on paper mounted on card, signed with initials, showing the cook (Mrs. Cadogan) holding forth, with inscription in the artist's hand, A horse! a horse! Is that my darlin' Major Yeates, said the cook, also signed, addressed and captioned on verso. 285 x 190mm. Not found in the published work, 1899, where there appears to be no portrait of Mrs. Cadogan, though it may have been used in the Badminton Magazine, where the stories first appeared. An attractive item from an underrated and influential work, which portrays the lives of the minor Anglo-Irish gentry with 'a smile and a tear'

ENGLISH SCHOOL c.1828Two views of Headford Castle, Co. GalwayWatercolour, one inscribed in pencil, “Headford Castle, Co. Galway, Ireland Richard St George Esq.”One sheet watermarked 1828, 146 x 228mmRichard J St George (1789 - 1857) extolled by Dutton in his Survey of the County of Galway for his ‘energy and taste’ in reviving his estate and the town of Headford. His father Richard Mansergh added the name St George on inheriting Headford in 1775. This Mansergh St George, a solider in the American wars; during his absence the estate and house was reported to have been wasted by “outlaws and vagrants”. On return in 1790 he set about reform but was killed in the 1798 rebellion. He is best known for his full-length portrait by Hugh Douglas Hamilton in the National Gallery, mourning at the tomb of his wife. His son Richard, completed these improvements and embellished the old castle of the St Georges. The present lot is a valuable documentation of his works.
