Adolf Hohenstein (Russian/German 1854-1928), Portrait of a Seafarer, signed lower right, pastel, framed. 34cm square. Note: Adolf (aka Adolfo) Hohenstein was born in Saint Petersburg and died in Bonn, Germany. He was a painter, illustrator, set designer and costume designer. Hohenstein is today best known as a designer and illustrator of theatrical and other posters in Italy and is considered the father of Italian poster art and an exponent of the Stile Liberty, the Italian Art Nouveau.
After Francois de Troy (French, 1645-1730), a portrait of Prince James Francis Edward Stuart (The Old Pretender), half-length, in lace-trimmed coat, wearing the Garter Star, unsigned, watercolour, framed. 63cm by 47cm. Note: this is a copy, probably early 20th century, of the original oil in the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland.

George Frederick Watts (1817-1904) - Pencil drawing - Portrait study of Thomas Hughes (1822-96) in death, 5ins x 5.25ins, in leather cloth covered case and glazed Provenance: By family descent Note: Thomas Hughes, author of Tom Brown's Schooldays, was a disciple of Thomas Arnold, Headmaster of Rugby. Hughes was founder of the Working Men's College and actively worked to legalise unions. Watts, a friend of Hughes, painted a portrait of Hughes in 1865 (Watts Gallery, Compton No. 5)
John Callcott Horsley (1817-1903) - Oil painting - Half-length portrait of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, relined canvas 36ins x 28ins, in gilt frame Provenance: By family descent through Celia Brunel James of Fleet House, Weymouth, granddaughter of Brunel, and thence by descent through the family to the present vendor. Note: Verso with painted inscription - "This copy from the original portrait of Isambard Kingdom Brunel C.E (now in the possession of Isambard Brunel Esq) was made for H.M. Brunel.C.E. Both pictures were painted by J.C. Horsley.R.A. The original in 1857-the copy in 1885". The earliest portrait dating to 1857 is now in The National Portrait Gallery, London (NPG 979). Horsley subsequently made four copies of that portrait, all but this example now being in public institutions. This example was in the collection of Sir Humphrey Brunel Noble (Fourth Bt 1892-1968). It was exhibited at The Victorian Era Exhibition, 1897 'History Section'. Horsley was the brother-in-law of Brunel.

AMENDED ESTIMATES:A fine and rare late 18th century Swedish Gustavian campaign desk by Georg Haupt, master in Stockholm 1770-1784, the mahogany chest form body with line inlaid detail and twin gilt brass hinged carry handles to the sides, an oval escutcheon to the front fold down section, opening to reveal a fitted interior with six drawers flanking a central cupboard, inset with an oval painted oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman, framed by an inlaid and stained laurel wreath tied with ribbons against a satinwood veneered background, the fall front with integral lift slope and fold out section with three carved recesses, all raised on two pairs of folding square section legs and a fold out front apron, with brass stays and sprung retaining lock, signed into the inlay of the lower corners of the central portrait panel 'G. Haupt fecit a Stockholm', 105 by 49 by 47.5cm high, 105cm high with legs extended.

Bernard Weatherhill seated upon a horse by GALE inscribed in the mount, ‘ For Mr Speaker in appreciation of his active Presidency of the Industry and Parliament Trust 25th November 1989. Provenance: The Estate of Lord Weatherill, former Speaker of the House of Commons.
An elegant white Marble cased mantle Clock having a two-train movement, the white face with Roman numerals and regulator spindle concealed in the rim of the face above the 12 o'clock position, the face with the name ''Polonie Paris'', the brass movement stamped 1834 and having an external count wheel. The clock is surmounted by the figure of a young fisherman holding a lute, leaning on a rock with a fishing net draped and gazing at a portrait miniature of his loved one, the ground at his feet with sea-shells, 16 3/8" high x 9 7/8" wide x 5 7/8" deep. (chip to rear of case, bell and winder not present).
