Note: Bearing a neat ownership inscription to the front free endpaper 'Edwin Blow / Gracehill Nov. 7th 1814', suggesting a possible family connection to John Blow (1649-1708), the English Baroque composer and organist. Giacomo Franchini (1827-1897), a rare and unusual Italian glass cane portrait tie pin, circa 1860 and later, set with a miniature portrait of the Italian statesman Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour (1810-1861) made from a single cross section of glass cane, within a glittering border, to a base metal pin with gilt metal stopper, cane 8.3mm diameter, total length 6.7cm, case Giacomo Franchini (1827-1897) was the son of a Venetian glass maker, who mastered the art of making incredibly intricate and lifelike portraits in the unforgiving medium of millefiori glass, particularly of major figures in Italian reunification, such as the present portrait of Cavour. Partly due to the obsessively detailed nature and small scale of his artistic output, Franchini's mental health deteriorated and he was confined to an asylum from 1863, where he remained for the rest of his life. Please see Giovanni Sarpellon, 'Miniature Masterpieces. Mosaic Glass 1838-1924', Munich 1995, pp. 70-90, for additional information on on Franchini's life and works.

A collection of various china wares to include an 18th Century Chinese polychrome decorated teapot with figural scenes either side (handle cracked), an Oriental miniature tea set, Japanese eggshell china cup and saucer, small collection of miniature pottery figures, English pearl ware mug with Oriental figural decoration, two Dutch Delft plates and a brass trinket box with contents of miniature pair of scissors and yellow metal mounted pendant with photographic portrait CONDITION REPORTS Teapot has a cracked handle. The lid, possibly associated, has chips to the finial and chips to the rim. Miniature tea set - all items have some chipping, the milk jug has been broken and restored. The teapot has a chipped spout and there is a crack running through the main body. Eggshell cup has hairline fractures and the figures have some minor losses throughout. The pearlware mug has large crack running all the way down it and chips stemming from the crack as well as a hairline fracture to the base. The two Delft plates have significant chips to the glaze and body all over as well as firing faults. All items have general wear and tear to include firing faults, surface scratches etc conducive with age and use - see images for more details
