A fine set in quarter blue morocco with red spine labels to backs, Witherby & Co., 1910 - 1927. The most comprehensive study of Australian birds and the most important since Gould`s Avifauna; includes about 100 species not covered by Gould. One of the last significant ornithological works to have hand coloured plates.
Approximately 59 postcards of Japan ' and one of Hong Kong at night. All the cards are pictured ' including a group of five black and white cards which say on the back that they feature the aftermath of a typhoon in Osaka. There is a mangled shrine, an express train overturned, a destroyed pagoda and another mangled shrine. This photo also shows a ceremony of giving all the arrows at Kamakura Shrine. The other black and white photo shows a group of homeless people in 1934 (again from information written on the back), and scenes of shrines at Nara Park. The eleven portrait cards show scenes from Nikko. The two other photos show cards of buildings and structures, including a temple, shrines and pagodas, in Nikko. A number have captions in English as well as Japanese. All 60 or so cards are in excellent condition. None have been postally used.
