English School, 18th Century, a portrait miniature of Mr David Gaston, in a full bottomed wig, mounted in rose-coloured metal the oval watercolour, within a gilt-highlighted blue enamel band and a further band of plaited hair, inscribed verso "Mr David Gaston. Aged 98, This Picture was Stolen, from the House of his Daughter, Mrs Williamson, 27th April 1774, & returned to Mrs Williamson by, Hearsey who was executed at Guildford the same Year". William Rennie (Scottish, fl. late 19th century), Portrait of Major John George Rennie D.S.O. (Black Watch), signed lower right and dated (18)98, oil on canvas, framed. 60cm by 45cmNote: Rennie was born in 1865 and entered the Black Watch in 1886, being promoted to Captain in 1893. During the year of this portrait he served as the ADC to the Brigadier General commanding the 1st Brigade, British Division of the Sudan Expeditionary Force and was present at the Battle of Khartoum. He later received his D.S.O. for action during the Boer War.
Admiral Lord Nelson, a salt-glazed stoneware portrait jug, probably Doulton & Watts Lambeth Pottery, c. 1840, of half length, modelled in bicorn hat, one of his medals inscribed "Nile 1798", the base "Trafalgar 1805 / England Expects Every Man to do his Duty", unmarked (hairline crack). 29.75cm
