(Black Watch), signed lower right and dated (18)98, oil on canvas, framed. 60cm by 45cmNote: Rennie was born in 1865 and entered the Black Watch in 1886, being promoted to Captain in 1893. During the year of this portrait he served as the ADC to the Brigadier General commanding the 1st Brigade, British Division of the Sudan Expeditionary Force and was present at the Battle of Khartoum. He later received his D.S.O. for action during the Boer War.
