Gerard Soest, 1600-1681 Portrait of a gentleman, said to be James Usher (1580-1655), signed; inscribed with sitter and artist on an old label attached to the stretcher , oil on canvas, 39x30cm., 15Dx11Nin. James Usher was the Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of all Ireland. He married Phoebe Chaloner circa 1612. He was buried in Westminster Abbey, by order of Oliver Cromwell.
Circle of Jeremiah Davidson, 1695-1745 portrait of jean stirling, oil on canvas, held in a carved wood frame, 127x102cm.; 50x40in. This portrait possibly represents Jean Stirling of Auchyle. On 28 January 1751 she married, as his second wife, Sir James Stirling of Glorat, 3rd Bt. He died in 1771 and she married secondly the Hon. James Erskine of Alloa, a senator of the College of Justice. She died in 1797.

The sitter was probably the son of Lt-General Alexander Graham Stirling of Auchyle, Rednock, and Duchray, and his wife, Margaret, daughter of Colonel James Moncrieff, of Sauchope, Fife.

The 1869 pattern shako of George F.J. Hodson, Lieutenant, The 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment, killed at Isandhlwana, 1879, blue cloth sides and top, patent leather peak, gilt braid trim, gilt shako plate with stencilled "24" centre, velvet backed chinchain with ear rosettes and lion's head ventilation hook at the back, white over red ball tuft plume in gilt socket with VR cypher on the ball, leather and silk lining, in its tin case with brass nameplate on lid "G F J Hodson Esq, 24th Regiment"; together with photostat portrait of Lt Hodson and details of his career, including service as ADC to Sir Bartle Fuere, and subsequent death at Isandhlwana on 22nd January, 1879. Good Condition (2 repaired patches to cloth)
