Trollope, Anthony - The Novels of Anthony Trollope: The Trollope Society, London, Ominium,Various dates (1990's), 8vo, In 48 volumes plus 1 volume autobiography, all volumes with an introduction (by various contributors) and a note on the text, the autobiography volume with frontispiece portrait and index, all uniformly bound in original publisher's brown cloth, the spines blocked in black and lettered & decorated in gilt, with the monogram of the Trollope Society in blind at centre of upper board. The Trollope Society Edition of the Novels of Anthony Trollope includes his autobiography. The setting and several of the Introductions are from the Folio Society edition of Trollope"s novels. Series editor for the Trollope Society edition was Professor David Skilton. The Introductions are by various modern authors and critics including Robertson Davies, Antonia Fraser, N. John Hall, John Halperin, P. D. James, John Mortimer, Ruth Rendell, and Joanna Trollope. A fine and very scarce collection of Trollope's renowned work. a French gold etui, of slim, slightly tapered rectangular form, decorated to each side with an oval plaque depicting a male portrait profile en grisaille, within a deep blue guilloche enamelled panel and outer two-colour gold foliate and bead borders, the hinged cover applied with rose cut diamond set inscription SOUVENIR DAMITIE, to a similarly enamelled ground, with old mine cut diamond set push-button, opening to reveal a fitted interior containing an ivory aide memoire and a pencil 8.2cm x 5cm x 0.8cm
a late 17th century tobacco box and cover, indistinctly marked to the underside, of oval form, the hinged lid decorated with a central image of Charles I in armour, within a belt inscribed FLORET GREX VIVAT REX CVRRAT LEX translating as The King lives, The law guides, The flock prospers, surrounded by the emblems of France, Ireland, England and Scotland against a floral ground, the King is depicted below two winged putti, holding a crown and below a sunburst motif inscribed VIDEO (I See) length 8.5cm for a very similar box see Robin Butler, The Albert Collection, page 8, item 106. This shows a box, identical except the portrait is facing the other way, The Albert Collection box appears to be of better quality and the one offered here is probably a later provincially made piece. The hinge may be a later addition
