Zabriskie, dating between 1919-1952, all signed by Hoover (occasionally simply as "Herbert"), mainly personal notes of friendship and thanks (for example: "That little book came and it is a work of art!" dated September 3 1947), but also including several letters relating to political activities, such as the 1921 sugar crisis and plans to ensure food deliveries during a strike; with another 10 short notes and letters of thanks initialled "HH"; with a further signed letter by Hoover to Edgar Rickard, dated May 30th 1928; and 5 signed typed letters from Allan Hoover, including one expressing his appreciation of Zabriskie's bookbinding skills; with several other ephemeral items, including a photographic reproduction of a painted portrait of Hoover, signed "Herbert Hoover" to the mount and a collection of six signed business cards from members of Hoover's and Harding's CabinetsFootnote: Provenance: from the collection of George A. Zabriskie Note: A small archive of letters, mainly sent by Herbert Hoover (31st President of the United States of America, 1929-1933) to George A. Zabriskie. Several of the letters are formal and politically orientated, however the majority speak of a good and developing friendship between the two men. It seems that Zabriskie would regularly send Hoover small birthday and Christmas gifts of Florida grapefruits and oranges, and (on occasion) his own finely bound books.
