JUMEAU; a good late 19th century French portrait doll, circa 1880, the bisque head with brunette hair wig (that and cork liner now separate), open blue glass eyes, closed mouth, pierced ears and painted features (restored and repainted), on stuffed leather body with kid leather limbs (legs af) in circa 1870 outfit with embroidered and laced detail, black bead choker, brown velvet belt and single kid leather booty, the head reverse with painted mark 'HXII' (af), with circa 1860 wax foliate crown, approx length 76cm. Additional InformationThere has been restoration and repainting to the right side of the right eyebrow, under the chin (on doll's left) and a further old repair, the wig and cork liner now separate, as stated, the cork liner with losses, the wig somewhat dry and frizzy, there are splits to the leather limbs, including noticeably to the thumb of the left hand with further distress to leather, scuffs, marks, abrasions, surface losses, etc, general wear to outfit, some staining, discolouration, some fraying, in particular foxing or discolouration to the lower undergarments and the single booty which bears stains, heavy scuffs and scrapes. The head with some further marks as is typical with bisque porcelain, there are also three noticeable chips to the head, two affecting the outer rim to the top of the head, one to the right reverse of the head rim interior, some further nibbles and fritting around the interior and exterior rim of the head, some surface glaze losses and nicks and some further scuffs and marks to the torso. Some of the stuffing where the leather has split to the left thumb is spilling out, some further gaps in the stitching as well as some scratches and rips to the leather; both legs split at knees with loss of stuffing, see images, will need significant attention. The wax crown has had some chips and losses to the moulded foliage as is commensurate with the age and delicate nature of the material.Please note that while the shoulder plate is bisque the body is stuffed leather and both legs are badly split at the knees, please refer to the additional images provided.
