Cockerell (Sydney C.).- Butler (Samuel) Erewhon, inscribed by author to Sydney C. Cockerell with section of A.L.s tipped-in at title, portrait of Butler pasted to front pastedown, scattered faint spotting, ex-library with blind-stamp to title and ink-stamp to title verso, abrasion mark to front free endpaper where label removed, original cloth, gilt, slight bumping to spine extremities, 8vo, 1901.⁂ Sydney C. Cockerell (1867-1962), was private secretary to William Morris, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt and acted as executor to Thomas Hardy. Between 1908 and 1937 he was Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, building up their collections of private press books, manuscripts, drawings, paintings, ceramics and antiquities.

Richard Cosway Attributed 1742-1821 Handpainted Watercolour Portrait Miniature in ivory of Lady Isabella Hamilton mounted in an 18ct gold oval frame. Marked 18ct. The back of the portrait has a paper label stating Richard Cosway RA FSA and reads 'To Lady Isabella Hamilton from Richard Cosway,. Dated Fecit 1786 Richard Cosway born in Tiverton 1742 appointed principle painter to the Prince of Wales. Size of miniature only 2 inches - 5 cms high and 1 5/8 inches - 3.90cms in diameter. Excellent condition
