The Right Honourable Sir Winston Churchill a fine wartime signed presentation portrait photograph by Karsh. The iconic resolved pose of The Prime Minister often referred to as ‘The Roaring Lion’ taken at the Canadian Parliament by Yousuf Karsh just after Churchill delivered his speech in December 1941. Signed in ink on the mount ‘Winston S. Churchill’ and signed in pencil by Karsh, mounted on a page from Mr Ernest Bennett's scrap book, The Butler to The Governor General of Canada, Major-General The Honourable Earl of Athlone and H.R.H. Churchill December 1941’ and where his fountain pen left an unsightly blot of ink a paper label has been stuck over it which is inscribed ’Goverment House Ottawa Canada‘, in original glazed frame 34x24cm overall. Chiquita Astor/Portrait of James Arthur Pope-Hennessy/reclining reading a book, The Blessing by Nancy Mitford/inscribed verso/oil on canvas, 30cm x 40cm CONDITION REPORT: in good condition, there is a strange mark beside the upper left corner of the pillow, I don't think this is a restoration but possibly an alteration by the artist at the time of painting. The image on our website shows this mark clearly.
