* SHERREE VALENTINE DAINES, AT ASCOT oil on board, signed 45cm x 30cm (image size) Framed (original) Note: Sherree Valentine Daines has been at the forefront of British art for over 35 years – a truly remarkable achievement. Over this time she has been variously described as ‘the face of modern British impressionism’, ‘artist to the stars’, (Daily Express) and ‘the finest figurative artist we have here in the UK” (Art of England). Her exquisite paintings have been exhibited at such prestigious venues as the Tate Gallery, the Barbican and the Lord’s Museum and is held in many corporate and private collections all over the world. Sherree is both the critic’s choice and the people’s choice, winning many high profile awards, and she has been officially voted the UK’s leading Modern Impressionist. A familiar face on our televisions she has appeared in programmes as varied as ‘To the Manor Bowen’ and ‘This Morning’; recently she was seen painting a £75,000 commission of a society bride in Channel 4’s documentary, ‘How the Rich Get Hitched’, and the reaction of the bride put all the other extraordinary elements of her wedding in the shade! Daines is unsurprisingly one of the UK's most successful print artists and her signed limited editions are highly sought after at galleries and at auction. Her superb illustrated hardback book "Your Days, My Days" is now in it's second edition. * CLAIRE HARKESS RSW (SCOTTISH B. 1970 - ),POLAR BEARwatercolour on paper, signed, dated 1998 label verso26cm x 18cmMounted, framed and under glass.Label verso: Gallery 41, EdinburghNote 1: In 1998, Claire worked as Artist in Residence with The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. While at Edinburgh Zoo she was filmed as part of the BBC "Ex-S" series and a fascinating documentary about her work was broadcast in November of that year. This work is a portrait of a specific animal at Edinburgh Zoo and it's likely that many Edinburgh residents and visitors to the Zoo will recognise this animal..Note 2: Claire Harkess was born in Ayr, Scotland, graduating from Glasgow School of Art in the early 1990s. In recent years her painting has taken her to fragile lands to study and interpret life on the edge. Antarctica, Outback Australia and St Kilda are all places where, in such extreme environments, survival is difficult and the balance of life is delicate. Harkess has also worked on the Galápagos Islands, made famous by Charles Darwin’s ‘The Origin of the Species’. This isolated volcanic outpost remained relatively untouched by man, evolving to become one of the World’s unique ecosystems. The balance present in nature is clearly communicated through Claire's paintings. Painting in watercolour or gouache offers a unique directness; the essential qualities of light and energy present in the natural world are the very essence of the medium itself. The delicacy of her palette and oriental economy of her mark-making creates a subtle tension representing a world that is ‘holding still’, giving a sense of freedom, spirit, time and place. Claire's work is exhibited at The Scottish Gallery, where her most recent highly successful solo show was in July 2020, and at other prestigious galleries around the UK.

* JOHN BELLANY CBE RA HRSA (SCOTTISH 1942 - 2013), THE VENTRILOQUIST (SELF PORTRAIT) watercolour on paper, signed 55cm x 38cm Framed and under glass. Note; Paintings of sea creatures and fishing boats were central to John Bellany’s oeuvre. This picture is a development from earlier paintings of fishermen holding up skate, with the features of the fish giving voice to the artists emotions. In this case the artists own face is imposed on the skate providing a more visual expression of the artists himself. Bellany’s paintings are intimately connected with the human figure, and particularly with his own life. However, he often used animals to reflect different aspects of human nature. Bellany underwent several personal crises during the 1980s, which are reflected in the choice of harrowing subject matter and the agitated, expressive brushwork found in his paintings at this time.
