Revd William Green was married to Margaret Gainsborough's cousin Elizabeth (1756-1840), and owned another portrait of Margaret (see Hugh Belsey, Thomas Gainsborough (Yale University Press, 2019), vol.1, p.350, no.364).

A WILLIAM III FIGURED WALNUT 'CUSHION' FRAMED MIRROR CIRCA 1700 89cm high, 76.5cm wide Condition Report: There are scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.There are losses, observations and restorations including: the backboards have not been removed but it appears that the bevelled mirror plate is a later replacement; there are some knocks and loose mouldings, some other mouldings have lifted and cracked; there is a monogram 'TW' painted on the backboards; there is some evidence of worm; the back has notches, presumably from previous fittings, also holes from previous wall fittings from the hanging of the mirror in portrait and landscape direction, currently there are two brass hooks for hanging the mirror in landscape direction.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition.
