Large and unique early portrait of Lawrence following the Arab Revolt and returning to service under a different alias. The work is attributed to Augustus John who painted Lawrence on numerous occasions. In 1929 he made several studies of Lawrence to capture his changing features after he produced another series of studies at the 1919 Paris Peace conference. An almost identical smaller version of this work was given the the artists brother A W Lawrence in 1946. Presented in a good gilt frame. Clean and unrestored.
