Samuel (Sam) Tonkiss (British, 1909-1992) - 'A Bronze Head of L S Lowry' Signed, no.25/36, and bearing a foundry stamp, the plinth base bearing applied plaque inscribed 'L.S. LOWRY RBA ARA MA LLD 1975', total height approx. 33cm. With this lot comes a black and white photograph inscribed to mount 'Lowry, George & Sam', also bears printed label verso, inscribed 'Portrait bronze bust of L S Lowry. George Aird (middle) with L S Lowry (left) and Sam Tonkiss (right) admiring the bronze bust of L S Lowry. Sam Tonkiss is the sculptor, George Aird is an art dealer who commissioned the bust and the sitter L S Lowry is an artist. Photography by Sefton Samuels.
