A SMALL GROUP OF 19TH AND EARLY 20TH CENTURY CONTINENTAL PORCELAIN, comprising a 19th century twin handled chocolate cup with cover and saucer, hand painted with a band of flowers and corn, gilt rims, cup and saucer marked with an underglaze blue 'A' or 'V', a.f, height 18cm, a pair of Limoges bon bon dishes with scrolled handles, hand painted with swags and garlands, bear retailers mark for Bailey, Banks & Biddle, the 'D & C, France' mark gilded over, one a.f, a cylindrical pedestal hand painted with Deutsche Blumen to the top and one side and a landscape with dead game and a hound to the other, underglaze blue scissor mark with asterisk and 9, restored around the foot, height 13cm x diameter 16cm, a Meissen dish relief decorated with convolvulus picked out in gilt, underglaze crossed swords mark and 14, indistinct incised mark, fitted with wire plate rack, diameter 26cm and two small porcelain plaques of a portrait of a woman, oval length 3.5cm, chipped at the top and a copy after Raphael of Madonna della Sedia, diameter 6.2cm (7) (Condition report: chocolate cup cover has riveted repairs as the lid has been broken in half, also rim chips at either end of the break, saucer has two chips and a stained crack, worn gilding, one bon bon dish has riveted repairs and a rim chip, pedestal has extensive amateur restoration around the base, worn gilding, the Meissen dish has underglaze chips to the underside, the oval plaque is chipped at the top and the circular one is worn where it has been in a mount)

Comment(s): Baudelaire, the celebrated poet, is generally regarded as the father of modern art criticism. His artistic output was extremely small; we have located only nine sales (seven different images) of his work at auction in the past 21 years, all drawings. The finished drawing of Baudelaire's lover Jeanne Duval, of which our example is the preliminary study, was offered at Claude Aguttes, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France on 09/19/2007 (see attached image - #4). The image was issued as one of the silkscreens in Warhol's famous Myths Portfolio, one of his most sought after collections. Im schönen Originaletui aus schwarzem Leder mit goldgeprägter Königskrone. Innenfutter aus weißer Seide mit goldgestickter Bordüre und eingelegter Glasplatte zum Schutz der Miniatur. Anton Friedrich König, 1722 Berlin - 1787. Zunächst Mathematiker, dann Stecher und schließlich Miniaturmaler. Schüler von Antoine Pesne und Constantin Friedrich Blesendorf. Seit 1767 königlicher Hofbildnismaler, zuletzt in Potsdam, wo er vor allem Bildnisse des Königs in großen Mengen zu Geschenkzwecken malte. Anton Friedrich König, 1722 Berlin - 1787. First mathematician, then engraver and finally miniature painter. Pupil of Antoine Pesne and Constantin Friedrich Blesendorf. From 1767 royal court portrait painter, at last in Potsdam, where he mainly painted portraits of the king in large quantities for gift purposes. BÖTTGER Klaus (1942 Dresden - 1992 Wiesbaden) "Portrait Astrio" Kopfbildnis einer Frau im Halbprofil mit phantastischen Elementen, Bleistiftzeichnung, rechts unten signiert und (19)69 datiert, 40x20cm (Blatt), R *Böttger studierte bis 1969 in Mainz Kunstgeschichte, Kunsterziehung, Philosophie und Biologie. Er spezialisierte sich auf die Technik der Radierung, wobei er sich stilistisch zwischen Pop Art und Phantastischem Realismus verorten lässt. Vor allem fein ausgearbeitete Porträts und erotische Aktdarstellungen dominieren sein Werk. Seine Arbeiten wurden in einer Vielzahl von nationalen und internationalen Ausstellungen gezeigt.*

Ra. 77 x 70 cm Das späte, vermutlich sogar letzte Werk des Schenau-Schülers Christian Leberecht Vogel wird aus Privatbesitz angeboten. Seit Vogel 1780, als junger Maler von 20 Jahren, an die Residenz des Grafen Solms-Wildenfels nach Schloss Wildenfels bei Zwickau kam, gehörte neben dem Amt des Hofmalers zugleich die kunstpädagogische Erziehung der gräflichen Kinder zu seinen Aufgaben. Hier, im täglichen Umgang mit Kindern verschiedenster Alterstufen, bildete sich seine Hingabe an das Genre des Kinderbildnisses aus, auf dem wohl die bedeutsamsten Leistungen des Malers liegen. "Vogel gehörte mithin zu jenen bahnbrechenden Künstlern, die in Überwindung der Barocktraditionen im Kinderbildnis den Ausdruck kindlicher Natürlichkeit, anmutiger Herzlichkeit und spielerischer Neugier zu entdecken wußten" (G.-H. Vogel 1988). Das hier angebotene, unvollendet gebliebene Werk entstand nach dem Weggang Vogels aus Wildenfels nach dem Tod des Grafen, seines langjährigen Dienstherrn. Es beweist, dass der inzwischen als Professor an der Dresdener Kunstakademie angestellte Maler weiterhin Kontakt zu Adelsfamilien aus der Wildenfelser Zeit pflegte. Dargestellt sind Amalie Mathilde Ernestine Prinzessin von der Schulenburg-Hornhausen (1807-1853) und ihre Schwester Ehrengotte Gebhardine Charlotte Adolfine (1808-1834). Stilistisch nähert sich Vogel in dieser späten Arbeit wieder einem streng akademischen Klassizismus an. Dass das Gemälde unvollendet blieb, könnte im Tod des Vaters der Mädchen und vermutlichem Auftraggeber des Bildes, Reichsgraf Adolf Ernst Ludwig von der Schulenburg-Hornhausen (gest. 1813), begründet sein.
