GIUSEPPE CADES’ Circle Second half of the 18th century Portrait of a young woman Oil on canvas, cm 40x50 The work must have been accomplished in Cades' workshop in Rome by 1780s. Features such as the sturdy and pale brush stroke typical of the fleshy pink and the woman's hair and plumed hat can be found in works like Nativity of a private collection in London and Agar and the angel of a private collection as well. The latter might not have been accomplished personally by Cades, but probably by our portraitist (Giancarlo Sestrieri, Bibliography of the Roman painting of the end of the 17th century and the 18th century, Torino, II, tables b/n 183 and 186). The canvas is in a sound state.
** John Stezaker (b. 1949) - Film Portrait (Incision) VII, 2005 photo collage, signed, titled and dated on an accompanying certificate of authenticity from The Approach, London 21 1/4 x 15 3/4 in., 54 x 40 cm (frame) Provenance: Richard Telles Fine Art, Los Angeles. A prominent figure in radical Contemporary Art since the 1970s, Stezaker came to the fore in the mid-2000s alongside a new wave of young British artists emerging from London's art schools. Utilising the Cubist method of papier-colle, Stezaker takes images from everyday publications such as magazines, art history books, catalogues and encyclopaedias, and splices them into one another by the simple, hand-cafted act of collage. The resultant images have a strange, psychic charge to them, bordering on the Surreal. But it is through this process of deconstruction and reassemblage that the artist manages to represent the fragmented experience of the world and the illusionist nature of photography, supposedly its truthful recorder.
