A wax profile portrait of a female figure, late 19th century, cased. 5.5 ins x 5 ins. CONDITION REPORT: The outer leather bound case is in reasonable order with some scuffing and losses to the leather. There is also some discolouration and staining. Both retaining clips are present and the hinges operate as they should. The cloth lined interior is tired. The wax image itself appears to be in good order with no significant damage. There is some minor paint losses around the bodice. The back surround to the miniature is beginning to disintegrate at the edges.
English School (late 18th/early 19th century), oil on canvas, portrait of an artist. 22 cm x 29 cm, unmounted fragment. CONDITION REPORT: This is part of a larger picture. It is framed in a simple poster frame. There are areas where the paint has thinned, there are however no significant paint losses and there does not appear to have been any restoration.
English School (19th century), oil on canvas, portrait of judge in robes. 92 cm x 73 cm, in good gilt frame (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This painting has come to us from a private source but has clearly been restored probably in the region of 15-20 years ago. The picture has been relined. There does not appear to be any significant overpainting but the picture has been cleaned and is perfectly presentable as a furnishing picture. There will inevitably have been some areas of overpainting but these do not appear to be too significant. The picture frame is in generally good order. This has also been repainted and there are some repairs to the extremities. The frame is however perfectly presentable and does not require any remedial work.
English School (19th century), oil painting on canvas, portrait of gentleman. 75 cm x 62.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This has been relined and restored and there is some evidence of overpainting and repair. The picture is very presentable but is probably simply a furnishing piece. The frame is attractive. This has been repainted and is very presentable. The frame is probably original but certainly contemporary with the painting.
Emma Belloc (Fl. 1895-1911), oil on canvas, portrait of Lady Carlile. 67.5 cm x 49.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This painting has had some repair and overpainting. The face appears to be in good order but there is definitely overpainting below the neck and to the left hand side of the exposed skin above the bodice. There is also a significant mark to the left of the nose indicating quite significant overpainting in this area also. There is further overpainting to the rear of the head and around the top of the hairline. The painting looks to have been poorly relined.
English School (19th century), oil on canvas, portrait of an elderly gentleman. 29 ins x 24 ins, framed. CONDITION REPORT: This picture has not been relined. The painting is dirty and a little tired. The paint is fairly thin in places particularly on the jacket and surrounding the face. There are one or two blemishes to the front of the canvas and minor paint losses but no significant issues. The gilt frame is showing signs of decay and there are minor losses. The frame has been repainted.
English School (19th century), oil on canvas, portrait of kitten. 7.5 ins x 9 ins, framed. CONDITION REPORT: The painting is in generally reasonable order. There are no holes in the canvas however the canvas is a little uneven and there are some stress fractures in the paint which should be visible from our image. The frame is in reasonable order but has lost some of its gilding.
A late 19th century oil painting on canvas, portrait of a military officer. 50 ins x 40 ins, framed and on Reeves & Sons canvas (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The painting is in generally good condition. There is however a patch on the back of the painting. This is to repair an L shaped tear which is approximately 2 inches below the bottom of the helmet strap. The tear runs for 4 inches vertically and 2 inches to the left. This is in a dark section of the picture and the repair is reasonably good. In our opinion it does not detract from the overall effect of the painting. There are also one or two minor scratches across the canvas particularly to the bottom centre left to the left of the sword. There is also a very small paint loss to the right hand side of the image approximately 6 inches away from the elbow.
Five cabinet cups and saucers, French, Wedgwood, Coalport and two others. CONDITION REPORT: The lighter blue and floral tea cup has a crack approximately 3 cm in length and the saucer has two cracks in the centre of approximately 8 cm and 10 cm. The darker blue and floral cup has restoration to the rim in two places, the saucer has rubbed gilding. The heavily gilded cup and saucer both have rubbed gilding and the saucer has a firing flaw to the underside approximately 5 mm square. The blue and gilded cup & saucer with portrait panels - the cup has a totally restored handle, crudely done and a crack running approximately 8 cm in length through the body.
