Cairo: al-Matba'ah al-'Almi?yah, 1369 AH [1950] First edition, 8vo, Arabic text, many photographic illustrations, original pictorial tan wrappers, upper cover with portrait of Ibn Saud framed within an architectural border, a little dampstaining and edge wear, tear to one leafFootnote: Note: An uncommon poetry work by Fouad Shakir (1905-73), a Saudi poet and journalist; the photographs include the two kings Ibn Saud and Farouk during Ibn Saud's visit to Egypt. Shakir was born at Mecca and was one of the first Saudi students sent to Egypt in 1929 to further their studies; he studied Arabic literature and in 1945 was placed in charge of royal protocol at Ibn Saud's palace. He was the editor of several Saudi newspapers including Sawt al Hijaz (the Voice of Hijaz) and Um al Qura. In 1966 he established a newspaper called Akhbar al Alam al Islami (News of Islamic World). He was a contributor to several Egyptian newspapers and published several books of poems.

19TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL "Young Girl with Flowing Locks Gazing Upwards", a portrait study head and shoulders, oil on board, unsigned, 42.5cm x 33.7cm CONDITION REPORTS Painting has some areas of crazing beneath the varnish and a rough area to the bottom right-hand corner clearly visible under UV. Various brown spots/marks throughout the painting. There is also an area of cloudy colour along the bottom edge, predominantly in the left-hand corner and darker painted area coming up from that which is assumed to attempt to be some kind of clothing. Frame has some areas of the gesso and gilding missing. Cracking etc throughout. See images for more details.
