(Hild.1, S.241, 312), very fine, very rare The portrait of Gustav II Adolph is by Lorenz Schilling (c.1575-1637), who engraved coins at numerous mints including Frankfort, Erbach, Hanau, Isenburg and Stolburg (see Forrer V, 384 who gives a date for this medal c.1631). Paul Desmond Fitzgerald, Australian b.1922- Portrait of Michael Donnellan; oil on canvas, signed and dated 1952, 61x50.5cm Note: Michael Donnellan, known in the fashion world as Michael of Carlos Place, was a master of British couture and founded the Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers with Norman Hartnell, Hardy Amies and Digby Morton. Paul Desmond Fitzgerald lived and painted overseas from 1949 to 1957 and visited and worked overseas on commissioned portraits twice each year since 1958 including America, England, Scotland, Ireland, Jersey, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Hawaii and Bermuda. In England he undertook various Royal commissions including Queen Elizabeth II 1963 and her Official Royal Jubilee Portrait 1978, HRH Prince Philip 1974 and 1975, HRH Prince Charles. In Italy he painted Pope John XXIII.
British School, 19th century- Portrait of a husband and wife, the lady seated half-length wearing a green dress and bonnet, the gentleman standing three-quarter length in tailcoat and holding a sprig; oil on canvas, 52.5x43cm CONDITION REPORT: on a 19th maple veneered frame taping on the reverse is of recent application has been re-lined, circa mid-late 20th century wooden stretcher appears to be the original under inspection with uv lamp there is no evidence of re-touching the painting has been cleaned and re-varnished there is old craquelure to the paint surface there is a deft to the weave of the canvas in the background to the left of the male sitter and beyond the inner section of this sitters left arm overall in good condition
