Pont-Aven School late 19th early 20th century- Workmen preparing for the fields; brush and pen and brown ink, on laid watermark CF France, 48.5x31.7cm: European School early 20th century- Seated draped figure; pen and brown ink, inscribed and dated 10 Februar 1921, 44x25.5cm: together with four drawings in charcoal and/or pen and ink of portrait figure and landscape subjects by different hands, all European early 20th century, some showing influences of post impressionism and expressionism, (a lot), (8). Note: Compare lead item with drawing by Roderic O'Conor 'Femmes Bretonnes', black ink and wash on paper, ill no 126 Barbican Art Gallery London exh 'Roderic O'Conor, 1860-1940', 1985. The Pont-Aven School, which included the Irish artist Roderic O'Conor can existed circa 1886-1895; O'Conor having arrived circa 1891 and remaining there until circa 1904. This drawing bears some stylistic similarities with his drawings. Other drawings in this lot appear to include works by Danish artists, many of whom were working in Pont-Aven during this period. Two well-known Danish artists working in Pont-Aven at this time were J F Willumsen 1863-1958 and Mogens Ballin 1871-1914 (see Pg 41 Barbican Art Gallery exh catalogue and Gauguin and the Pont-Aven Group, Arts Council 1966

A Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel 'Amphora' porcelain portrait vase, designed by Nikolaus Kannhauser, c1895, part of the 'Allegory of Germany' series, the body hand painted in colours depicting a Princess or Queen wearing a jeweled crown, slip-trailed and heightened with gilding and applied ceramic cabochons, the reverse with painted tree scape and raised gold mottled glaze, impressed 0203 and 'Amphora' mark to underside, 23 cm high.

Showed at the RA and The National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Australia holds his works.
Abraham Hulk I (Snr)1813-1892- Figures by a tranquil shore with moored barges and tall ships in the distance; oil on panel, signed, 20x30cm, Note: Hulk studied at the Amsterdam Academy under the portrait painter Jean-Augustin Daiwaille (1786-1856). Between 1833-1834 he visited North America before leaving for Holland, living in Amsterdam, Nijkerk, Enkhuizen, Haarlem and Oosterbeek. During this period, he became an established painter of marine subjects and regularly exhibited his work. In 1870 Hulk returned to London, where he lived for the rest of his life.
