Sir William Richard Drake FSA a terracotta plaque by Robert Wallace Martin, dated 1888, oval panel, in oak frame incised R W Martin Sct Oct 1888, 50 x 39cm (panel) Provenance The George Twyman Collection of Martin Ware. Literature Malcolm Haslam The Martin Brothers Potters, Richard Dennis, page 82 figure 103 for a portrait medallion of Sir William Drake, dated 1887, illustrated. This portrait of Drake, the chairman of the Burlington Fine Arts Club, was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1888.
Fiore de Henriquez (Italian/British 1921-2004), stylised bronze bust, mounted on a wood plinth. Overall width 28 cm, height 41 cm, signed and dated 75. NOTE - Her debut exhibition held in Florence 1947 and following her move to Britain she exhibited at The Royal Academy in 1950. She produced work to commemorate The Festival of Britain and spent many years touring North America working and lecturing. One of her biggest achievements was a restoration of the abandoned Italian settlement of Peralta. In 1968 she began restoring the village with the local and surrounding inhabitants supplying all parts and labour. Peralta became a well known retreat for artists (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This item is from a deceased estate and the deceased was a personal friend of the artist. The deceased's father was the Head of Geriatrics at Whitehaven Hospital for which Fiore De Heneriquez undertook a commission to produce a bust for the Hospital Trust. The vendor has also provided but not include with the sale an exhibition catalogue for the artist dated 11-27 November 1975 at the Centro D'art La Barcaccia which highlights the sculptures in the same style as the one on offer. There is also a printed card advertising a lone portrait sculpture exhibition at 25 Cheyne Walk, London September 22nd-October 2nd 1975. The sculpture itself is approximately 26 cm high and 16 cm across. From the attached images you should be able to see that the item is signed and dated 75.

A professional soldier, he entered in the army in 1908. He married the Hon Eva Isabel Marion Bruce daughter of Major Henry Bruce, 2nd Baron Aberdare of Duffryn and Constance Beckett in 1911 at St Margaret's Church, Westminster. He married secondly Angela Mariota Tollemache, dautgher of the Hon Douglas Alfred Tollemache and Alice Mary Head in 1923. Lord Belper held office as Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire and was succeeded by the eldest son of his first marriage, Major A R G Strutt, 4th Baron Belper (1912-1999)

Educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, he was the Liberal MP for the East Derbyshire constituency and subsequently Berwick upon Tweed. He succeed to the title on the death of his father in 1880 and was appointed Privy Counsellor in July 1895. He married Lady Margaret Coke, daughter of Thomas Coke, 2nd Earl of Leicester of Holkham and Juliana Whitbread in 1874 at Holkham, Norfolk. Lord Belper lived at Kingston Hall, Kingston on Soar, Nottinghamshire.Approx 3" diagonal tear to left of sitters right shoulder and scratch on chest, unlined, on the original stretchers and ornate Edwardian giltwood and composition frame with on the reverse the label of Dollman & Son, London
RAMSAY RICHARD REINAGLE, RA (1775-1862) PORTRAIT OF WILLIAM STRUTT, FRS (1756-1830) seated full length at a table holding compasses, signed and dated R R Reinagle, RA 1828, further inscribed on a letter with the sitter's name and address (William Strutt St Helens Derby) and dated again (on a document) 1828, oil on canvas, 212 x 146cmThe sitter was the eldest son of innovator and entrepreneur Jedediah Strutt (1726-1797) of Belper, Derbyshire, one of the leading figures in the Industrial Revolution. Similarly gifted William Strutt benefited from the excellent education made possible by his father's success. An architect and engineer, he designed the Derby Infirmary, a building remarkable for its early incorporation of fireproof construction, innovative heating and ventilation. He was also an early exponent of the use of iron framed structures in buildings after Belper North Mill was destroyed by fire in 1803. His construction of another, the round mill, reflects the influence of Bentham's concept of a panopticon. A leading member of the Midlands Enlightenment, he was one of the group of men of exceptional ability including Erasumus Darwin that founded the Derby Philosophical Society. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1817, his proposers including James Watt and Marc Isambard BrunelLined in probably the mid 20th c, the varnish requiring a clean, one or two light scratches mainly lower right. An early 20th century portrait miniature of a lady with a lapdog, all within a piano ivory frame. Overall 13.5 cm x 11.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: There is a 2.8 cm horizontal fine split to the top right-hand panel. There is a 1 cm fine horizontal split to the bottom right-hand panel. There are two small splits to the bottom left-hand panel, all of these should be visible on our website. Looking closely at the lapdog it looks like some of the white gouache on its forehead is missing but on close inspection this seems to be deliberate. Generally in good order with but a few faults.
