A PEARLWARE "NELSON" JUG, early 19th century, of baluster form, printed in underglaze blue with a half length portrait of Nelson, study of the "Victory" and Nelson`s Orders, below trophies of war, 5 3/4" high, together with a Leeds pottery baluster jug, moulded and overpainted in brown, yellow, blue and green with portraits of Nelson and Berry, impressed, 7" high (2) (Illustrated)
Unit, ‘Abingdon Head’ type, female Celtic head left with crescents and beaded hair, heart-shaped ear, pellet-in-annulet behind, rev. horse right with smaller horse below, above and upside-down, a small chubby horse with beaded mane, 1.09g/10h (BMC Ð; VA Ð; S Ð; SNC May 1998, p.150). Of good silver, extremely fine with a striking portrait, extremely rare; by far the finest of a handful of known examples Provenance: Found in Wiltshire January 2005; C. Rudd FPL 81, May 2005 (31). CCI 05.0127 This coin is part of a small and rare series probably struck by a tribe in the Berkshire/South Oxfordshire/Wiltshire region around the period 55-45 BC. Other coins in the series show a remarkable resemblance to rare Gallo-Belgic bronzes normally attributed to the Ambiani. Quite what the connection is between these coins and their Gallo-Belgic prototypes must remain, for the moment, the subject of speculation

JAMES MCBEY (Scottish 1883-1959) The First Portrait Of Marguerite mixed media on paper, indistinctly signed, 34 x 25cm (13 1/2 x 10 inches) Note: Although undated, this is believed to be the earliest known portrait by McBey of the strikingly beautiful American heiress Marguerite Loeb who later became Mrs James McBey. Provenance: This and the following six lots were the gifted property of the Housekkeper at 1, Holland Park Avenue (the McBey`s London residence) and the authenticity has of these works has been confirmed to us (verbally) by The Senior Keeper of Fine Art at Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums who hold the worlds largest collection of works by both James McBey and Marguerite McBey.
MARGUERITE MCBEY (American 1905-1999) The Last Portrait of Duncan Grant , watercolour, signed and dated `76 and inscribed verso Tangier 25.04.76 27cm x 20cm Note: Duncan James Corrowr Grant (1885-1978)) was a Scottish painter and member of the Bloomsbury Group. In 1976 , aged 91, he travelled to Morocco with the poet Paul Roche and fell ill with pneumonia. He recovered and spent several months re-couperating in Tangier with Marguerite McBey and others. He died at Aldermaston on 8th May 1978 at the age of ninety-three. Provenance : See lot 38.

Two 19th Century German porcelain tobacco jars and covers - one modelled in the form of a standing woman in pseudo-military costume supporting a gun in her right hand, on oval base, 11ins high (restored - see Horowitz, Page 123, figure 537 for a similar example) - and one modelled in the form of a seated portrait of “Kaiser Wilhelm I”, 10.5ins high (incised 2568 to base - restored - see Horowitz, Page 120, figure 522 for a similar example) (both possibly by Conta & Bohme)
A 19th Century Bohemian cranberry glass circular bowl with cut and shaped rim, with eight circular white opaque vignettes enamelled with shoulder length portraits of young children interspersed by floral sprays, the whole surface decorated in gilt with leaf scroll ornament, white opaque knop, on tapered stem with floral and gilt decorated white opaque vignettes, on circular footrim, 7.5ins diameter x 10.5ins high (slight rubbing to gilding) Note : Edmund Thomas Parris (1793-1873) was a portrait, genre and landscape artist who exhibited on numerous occasions at the Royal Academy between 1816 and 1874. In 1832 he was appointed Historical Painter to Queen Adelaide, wife of King William IV, and emerged as a fashionable society artist in the early Victorian period, known in particularly for his depiction of the Coronation and Funeral of the Duke of Wellington, both which were popularised as engravings. He is perhaps best known in Kent for a charming work of 1836 – “The Canterbury Pilgrims” which hansin the Royal Museum and Art Gallery.
