[DICKENS (Charles)] BROWNING (Elizabeth Barrett) Aurora Leigh, 5th edition 1860, 8vo, from the library of Charles Dickens, with his bookplate and with the further bookplate "From the Library of Charles Dickens, Gadshill Place, June, 1870" on front pastedown, lacks first free endpaper, with portrait frontis, a few pencil lines to margins marking passages, original green cloth.Note: Aurora Leigh, a novel in blank verse was first published in 1857. In first-person narrative, she describes the character's childhood in Italy and England, her self-education and her pursuit of a literary career. The novel has been compared to Dickens's Great Expectations, with its struggle of class divides, and rigid social rules. Dickens was an admirer of Browning's writing and knew her through her husband Robert, with whom he corresponded.
