A 19th century English school, oil painting, portrait of Lord Henry Howard Molyneux Howard (1766-1824), deputy Earl Marshall of England and High Steward and MP for Gloucester, canvas 76 cm x 64 cm, monogrammed VYD and dated "80" to bottom right corner and entitled to top left hand corner and with Winsor and Newton stamp verso in ebonised and parcel gilt frame. CONDITION REPORT: This painting is in good overall condition. The canvas is a bit slack and perhaps could be relined.

Eatwell, 49 Dorset Street, London stamp verso in ebonised and parcel gilt frame, with gilt oval inner slip (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This painting is in good overall condition. The inner slip has some verticals shrinkage splits.

Eatwell, 49 Dorset Street, London stamp verso in ebonised and parcel gilt frame with gilt oval inner slip (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This painting is in good overall condition. There are a couple of shrinkage splits to the inner slip. In addition the canvas is slightly slack and could do with relining.

19th century school, oil painting, half length portrait of William Stanley (1788-1879), painted with armorial to upper right corner, canvas 77 x 64 cm in gilt moulded frame with Winsor & Newton stencil verso, together with ink inscribed label "William Stanley aged 70 - A Native of Dickinfield Cheshire...". Provenance - by family descent to the present vendor.
Oil on board three quarter length portrait of a young lady. 22 cm x 17 cm, framed. CONDITION REPORT: The painting has some craquelure to the surface mainly around the subjects head and some discolouration and fading and a few spots of soiling but generally in good condition. The frame has some cracks to the giltwood/gesso and some minor depletions and small repairs mainly to the upper right moulded corner. The way the board has been mounted within the frame it appears that it isn't the original frame and it has been re-housed, however it is a good match.
Charles McEwen (Glasgow School), portrait of a young girl with basket of eggs. 80 cm x 44 cm, framed, signed. CONDITION REPORT: This painting is an oil on board, the condition is generally good. |On the upper portion above the subjects head there are two small losses to the paint and some evidence of craquelure around the subjects left arm and right arm and upper torso, The frame appears to be later, again in good condition.
Style of "Wassdail" (possibly James Worsdale) oil painting, "Portrait of Charles Edward Stuart, the Young Pretender". Canvas 75 cm x 62 cm, in gilt and grained wood frame, with labels verso variously, one stating "Lent by Sir Algar Howard, KCB", a label for an Exhibition at the Abbott Hall Art Gallery, Kendal, and a photocopied catalogue entry apparently for the sale of this painting at Sotheby's in 1984, Lot No. 45 (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The painting has slight crazing to the paint surface but otherwise appears to be in good condition. The frame is later.
A Victorian rosewood and parquetry banded sewing box, the lid painted with stag portrait "Monarch of the Glen", with blue silk lined interior. 8 cm high, 14 cm wide, 18 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: The portrait to the lid is titled to lower right margin but is slightly rubbed below the word Monarch. The parquetry border inlay is intact. Around this border there is some moulding loss to the curved corner which you could probably see from the photograph looking at the front of the box there is loss to the upper right margin and to the top left corner. The front of the box around the escutcheon all appears to be in good order although there is some minor chipping around the escutcheon itself. The sides and back of the box are in good order, although there is very minor chipping above one of the hinges. Internally the box is lined with blue silk and with blu and white pipping. This lining looks to be possibly be later.
Adam Buck, watercolour, miniature portrait of Charles Edward Long, 12.5 cm x 11 cm, signed and dated 1828, in bevelled gilt frame and glazed, with label verso for R Gravel Carver and Gilder, No. 28 Warwick Street. CONDITION REPORT: This is a competent military portrait but does have significant woodworm damage creeping in to the left hand side of the image . There is some wear to the gilding on the frame.
