CIRCA 1800 ENGLISH SCHOOL. "John Raymond Barker (probably)", a portrait study of a gentleman in black top coat and waistcoat with book in his left hand, seated on a red leather upholstered Gainsborough type library chair, by a stone pillar, oil on canvas, unsigned, indistinctly inscribed verso, 130 x 96 cm.
SIR WILLIAM BEECHEY RA (1753 - 1839). "Mrs Daniel Raymond Barker", a portrait study of a lady in white dress seated in a landscape, oil on canvas, unsigned, inscribed on label verso and inscribed on another label "...cleaned by Messrs Leggatt Bros, 30 St James's Street, SW1 - May 1955", 77 x 64 cm.
A circa 1800 marquetry inlaid mahogany commode in the Louis XVI taste, the top decorated with birds and butterflies amongst blossoming foliage and with beaded edge, the breakfront with three long drawers each decorated with vases of flowers and with circular pierced brass and wreath decorated handles flanked by canted corners with applied gilt brass mounts as rams heads and portrait bust medallions within ropework swags, the sides inlaid with vases of flowers, birds and mythical beasts above a shaped apron to square tapered cabriole front legs and gilt metal mounted sabots, 113 cm wide x 94 cm high x 55.5 cm deep.
A George III Mahogany Knife Box, of typical canted form, with barber's pole edge stringing, and silver plated key escutcheon and ring handle, with later painting overall comprising a pearl border medallion painted with wing fairy amongst foliage, classical portrait medallions, vases and ribbon tied swags, 39cm high (interior now altered, front ogee bracket foot a later replacement)

Maharajah Dulleep Sing; Maharajah Shere Sing; Maharajah Runjeet Sing, and 13 other Indian portraits, including an Afghan and Khulleefa Nooroodeeu, watercolours on blue paper, heightened with gold, each c.105 x 75mm., oval images, unexamined out of frame, titles in a contemporary hand, four with faint stamp-mark, one portrait slightly creased, a few other very minor defects, mounted in one frame, c.1870 (16).
Villon (Jacques, (pseudonym of Gaston Duchamp)) A Group of 5 Figure Drawings, consisting of a self-portrait, 2 female nudes, 1 male nude, and a portrait of W. Pack, pen and black ink, one over pencil, 210 x 180mm. to 275 x 175mm., all signed, all but one dated, one of the female nude drawings inscribed Nudite Surprise on the reverse, the other with the lower left corner replaced and redrawn, all hinged into conservation mounts, in a later cloth box, Jacques Villon on gilt-lettered label to spine, 1929-37 (5).

Duncan Forbes of Culloden, Lord President of the Court of Session, three-quarter length, seated portrait, after Davison, mezzotint, 355 x 255mm., reduced margins at top and sides, thread margin at bottom, small loss from top left corner, some spotting and slight damp-staining, mounted at corners onto support sheet, Christopher Seton, 1748; with 4 other portraits, including Sir William Chambers and Sir Charles Napier, by different hands, engraving, mezzotints and stipple-engraving, various sizes, all trimmed close to, or just within, platemark, late 18th and early 19th centuries (5).
Tempesta (Antonio) Hunting Scenes, 1 of deer hunting and 2 of wild boar hunting, engravings, each c.195 x 270mm., partially laid onto paper supports, slight creasing, each with a short tear into the image, early 17th century; and a small group of allegorical, mythological and natural history plates, including studies of human features, by or after Stradanus (Jan van der Straet), and others, some published by Snyders, engravings, various sizes, most mounted on supports, surface dirt, a few creases and short tears, other minor defects, late 16th and 17th centuries; with the portrait, 2 frontispieces and 8 maps from Sir Walter Ralegh's Historie of the World, engravings, all trimmed into the image, tears, a few edges singed, one map with a large loss, other defects, 1614, sold not subject to return (25).
Fradelle (Henry) Rebecca and Ivanhoe; The Black Knight and the Clerk of Copmanhurst revelling, mezzotints by Lupton and Say after Fradelle, each c.420 x 520mm., good impressions marked Proof, trimmed just within platemarks but well outside subjects, short tears in title areas, dusty, London & Paris, 1830 ~ Ryder (Thomas) The Politician, (Benjamin Franklin), engraved portrait after S. Elmer, 370 x 305mm., a good impression but with overall browning, trimmed within the platemark but well outside image and title, a horizontal crease above the publisher's line, Ryder, 1782; and 4 historical scenes by Benjamin West and others, mezzotint or mixed-method engravings, some defects (7).
Pether (William) (Samuel Seyer), locally published portrait of the historian and rector of St. Michael's, Bristol, mezzotint, with pen and ink details (?by the artist), 300 x 240mm., marginal spotting, surface dirt, small surface abrasions, other minor marginal defects, Bristol, 1816; with a quantity of other portraits, including George the Third and Princess Charlotte of Wales, by or after Faithorne, Hollar, Chalon and others, engravings, stipple-engravings and mezzotints, various sizes and conditions, also one memorial souvenir of the Duke of Wellington, printed on silk, and four coats of arms, 18th and 19th centuries (15).
Hogarth (William) The Works of William Hogarth, from the Original Plates, Restored by James Heath Esq., R.A., 143 plates of 156, lacking one portrait, Rake's Progress and Four Times of the Day, etched and engraved plates, various sizes, on soft wove paper, tissue guards, generally a clean copy, occasional light spotting, disbound, Baldwin, Craddock & Joy, 1822. A small, mixed, group of original caricature drawings, some early motoring, cycling and aviation, also horse riding, American cattle ranching and other subjects, including Legal Expressions, Enthusiastic Junior, carried away by his feelings, somewhat inconveniences the learned Q.C's in front, by S.W. Cock, after E.T. Read, and a portrait of a gentleman, dated 1924, in the manner of a Vanity Fair caricature, pastel on grey paper, 630 x 240mm., signed H. Vau, others by various hands, pen and ink, some over pencil, three with extensive watercolour added, various sizes, several signed, some dated, late 19th and early 20th centuries (17).
Pond (Arthur) Three Caricatures after Pietro Leoni Ghezzi, one portrait of a gentleman and two interiors, etchings, each c.270 x 360mm., or the reverse, slight browning, some spotting; with one caricature after Guercino, soft-ground etching, 320 x 220 mm., printed in bistre, mid 18th century (4).

Turkey.- Arif Pacha (Mushir) Les Anciens Costumes de l'Empire Ottoman, oval portrait, explanatory text and 16 plates, lacking title, chromolithographs, each c.285 x 340mm., images generally clean and bright, very slight spotting and surface dirt, almost all marginal, a short tear in the right margin of plate 9, well outside the image, text leaves browned, 19th century gilt-embossed red cloth, worn, joints cracked, folio, Paris, (1863).
