An oval porcelain plaque painted in oils with a half length portrait of Princess Charlotte, the reverse of the beaded gilt frame with paper label "Princess Charlotte" and another "copied by Mrs Warner?" In very good condition, the registered design gilt metal frame slightly dented and could benefit from a careful clean, otherwise no defects noted. Plaque 7x9cm., frame 8.5x11.5cm.
Royal interest, a gift from Queen Victoria:- a Victorian gold memento mori stick pin depicting portrait bust of John Brown (1826-1883), the controversial Highland manservant and friend of the monarch, flanked by initials "JB" and below this the date of his death "1883," reverse with the royal and imperial cipher "FROM VRI", in a fitted red leather and gold-tooled case with crowned cipher of King George VI and retailed by D. Grant & Son of Edinburgh, 7.2 cm. long, wt. 6 gm. Lytton Strachey's 1921 biography of Queen Victoria states that following Brown's death in 1883 ".......a Brown memorial brooch, of gold, with the late gillie's head on one side and the royal monogram on the other, was designed by Her Majesty for presentation to her Highland servants and cottagers, to be worn by them on the anniversary of his death, with a mourning scarf and pins." In excellent condition.

Indian School (circa 1790), gouache on paper - portrait of the Maharaja Dowlut Rau Sindeah with attendants and military forces beyond, within gilt border, inscribed in pen to the border - 'Dowlut Rau Sindea', 37cm x 27cm, framed.Provenance: From the collection of Edward Moor (1771 - 1848), British soldier and scholar. Author of 'The Hindu Pantheon' published 1810 - the first English publication detailing the Hindu gods. The original work was extensively illustrated by William Blake - the engravings taken from Indian paintings in Edward Moor's own collection. The majority of the collection was gifted to the British Museum by Mrs A. G. Moor in 1940 CONDITION REPORT Glazed frame - not examined out of the frame. Main image, some surface scratches (one runs bottom left vertically near edge), surface marks and minor stains.Border - a fine cracklelure to the giltwork, some surface marks, deterioration , losses and minor tears at far outer edge.Nothing on the reverse of the picture
