Sir Hugh Casson (United Kingdom, 1910 - 1999) "Albert Memorial". Watercolor. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the Westminster Collector's Society Great Britian 12p Albert Memorial stamp issued May 7, 1980. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. Princess Victoria became heir presumptive to the British throne when she was only eleven years old. Just seven years later, in 1837, the shy princess was crowned Queen. When coronation ceremonies concluded, advisers encouraged the eighteen-year-old queen to marry. Two years later, her cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg, visited London and the young queen fell deeply in love with him. Victoria and Albert were married in 1840. The handsome prince became the center of Queen Victoria's life and, with their nine children, the royal couple led a full and happy life. But, in 1861, Prince Albert died of typhoid fever. The queen was inconsolable. Heartbroken, she withdrew from her court and family. Gradually, Queen Victoria returned to her duties but, each year, on the anniversary of Albert's death, her grief returned. Queen Victoria vowed that the nation would never forget her beloved Albert. To accomplish this she built the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens. Sir George Gilbert Scott designed the memorial which represents the essence of High Victorian taste. To this day, the statue of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg sits under a richly ornamented Gothic canopy. The Prince is clutching the catalogue of the Great Exhibition of 1851 which he helped engineer. One hundred sixty-nine portrait sculptures march around the podium, allegorical figures crown the arches and bronze statues adorn the spire. Overall Size: 17 x 19 in. Unframed. (B06025)

Bryan Kneale (British, B. 1930) "Dinosaur - Iguanodon" Colored Pencil on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the Great Britain Owen's Dinosauria 1841 22p Iguanodon stamp issued August 20, 1991. Unearthed Iguanodon fossils drew a provocative portrait of a large biped, duck-billed dinosaur measuring more than twelve feet in height and thirty feed in length. Possessing muscular hind limbs and short forelegs complete with hands, the Iguanodon earned it moniker from its peculiarly serrated teeth -- similar in form and function to iguana teeth. The creature's stout build and sharp teeth belied its placid nature and vegetarian diet. Scientists have discovered mass repositories of Iguanodon fossils, suggesting that they traveled in herds or lived in family groups. Some paleontologists have also hypothesized that this species was partially aquatic and sought refuge in lakes or streams when frightened or threatened. Image Size: 19.75 x 21.75 in. Overall Size: 30.25 x 23.75 in. Unframed. (B13212)

Philip Naviasky (1894-1983) Head and shoulders portrait of a lady wearing a red patterned scarf Oil on board, 59.5cm by 49.5cm Provenance: Private Collection North Yorkshire This work has been authenticated by the artist's wife Millie Naviasky, see label verso Born in Leeds to Polish-Jewish immigrant parents, Philip Naviasky was a prodigiously talented youth and after attending Leeds School of Art was admitted to the Royal Academy Schools aged just eighteen (allegedly the youngest ever entrant). After winning a Royal Exhibition Award he studied at the Royal College of Art before returning to his childhood home and teaching at the Leeds College of Art. Naviasky's work is gradually attracting the attention his talent deserves and the increasing prices achieved for his portraiture reflect that. Owing to him living and working in Leeds, and eschewing the bright lights of London, Naviasky's discovery by the art market has been gradual, but his bold brush strokes, striking colours and ability to capture a likeness are beginning to develop a dedicated following. Although we do not know the sitter, it has been suggested that she may have moved in the same North Leeds artistic milieu as Naviasky. Her cool detached expression and effortlessly chic appearance only add to the mystery of this unknown femme fatale.
